OK, new 40HP with 1.4 hours on it.
I have taken it out 2x and not had an issue.
Today I thought I would see if there were any Teal around.
Motor fire up just fine.
I motored about 1/2 mile at a cruising speed.
Motor slowly bogged down and shut off.
The motor will turn over, just not fire up and run.
I limped back to the dock with the trolling motor and have been troubleshooting since.
I have checked the fuel line and tightened all connections.
Still nothing.

Any thoughts? what I should check.
Not versed on the EFI, was getting pretty good with my other Carb motor.
This is something new for me.
I'm sure it's something simple. :(

Is the fuel pump running when you turn the key? How old is the fuel line?

Fuel pump runs.
The fuel line is new from BW.
I have a water separator and disconnected that and ran the line straight from the tank to the engine.
I have a bulb in the line. I've tried pumping it and the engine still won't turn over.
Every once in a while, it will sound as if it will run, but just doesn't grab and go.
Safety clip is in place, not sure if there are any others that would cause this issue.

Check the vent on the gas cap. Try running with the cap cracked open slightly. My 37 used to do the same thing. Motor slowly would lose power to where it would only idle, then shut off. Needless to say, I removed the vent and its been great since.

So the fuel pump runs, but is the high pressure side seeing fuel? Doesnt sound like it. I dont remember if theres a pump or just a fuel pressure regulator, but that sounds like the potential issue.

I've tried the tank vent cap. Opened some and a lot and also closed. Not help.

Russ, "high-pressure side seeing fuel?" Not sure where to look or check got this. I'm wondering now if I need a pro to look at it. Flint Tx is a drive, but I might have to make it.

Curious, in the fuel line to the motor there is a fuel filter, then a silver filter that has wires connected to it. What is that?

The silver filter with wires is the low pressure pump that feeds the black resivoir under air filter that has the high pressure pump inside it

FWIW I don't run a primer bulb and I never have on any of my EFI motors.

It's not a necessity until the low pressure fuel pump dies while on the water. Then it's as handy as a pack of almond Hershey kisses at an orgy.

Is the fuel bulb in the front or back of the boat? On a 35 I did some troubleshooting on for a buddy, with the bulb in the back the motor would run the gas out of the line, then shut down. With the bulb in the front, it did not have any problems. Just a thought...

Diag: Despite having a water separator, there was water in the gas!

Made the trip and met Will C and his brother-in-law. Will told me he closed at 4 pm, but might be there a little later. I arrived at 3:45. Because of my 3hr drive, Will stepped up and looked over the engine and diagnosed the problem within about 10 min. An hour later, due to some great conversation and me hang out causing delays. I was back in business.

Thanks again Will. Go see this guy!
