Rattling within valves?
Anyone ever have a rattling type sound within the valves area of their engine? I have a 2004 Prodrive 27 hp with Kohler engine. Took the valve covers off and push rods are good, rockers are good, everything go is tight. Can’t adjust the valves bc they are just set without that option. Needless to say I dropped it off at a guys place who is gonna look at it tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this before? Clutch seems fine...just trying to be ready for opener of duck season this Saturday!!!

The way this engine is set up there is just a lock but right in the middle of the rockers and no Allen wrench screw to set it.

Re: Rattling within valves?
when is the last time u changed the oil? if it's old it's probly broken down. change the oil and trow some lucas oil stabilizer or stp in with the oil. it will quiet up the engine.

Re: Rattling within valves?
Kohlers run hydraulic lifters just like old Chevy 350s. Step1 change oil like DA said. Make sure it's a high zinc oil and add some thick stuff. This motor runs higher spring pressure to make the hydro lifters work. This makes kohlers eat cams when the wrong oil is used. Hope it's an easy fix

Re: Rattling within valves?
I changed the oil in the beginning of summer and have maybe run the engine 20 hours since then. I’ll change it again though just to be sure. I’ll find out more hopefully tonight what’s going on.
