Post Starter dragging question
I have 2 batteries. One for engine and other for accessories. When I try to crank motor the starter drags. I hook another battery to it via jumper cables and it fires right up. Figured it is a bad battery. Battery voltage is 12.51 volts. The battery I jumped it with is 12. 72 volts. Could it still be a bad battery at 12.51 volts?

2011 35GTR that I did alot of work to. Thinking it might be a bad cell causing a drop in amperage.

Figured Russ might have an idea since he has a bunch of starter issue experience.

I swapped batteries around and that is all it was. Must be a bad cell in the battery.

Has it always don’t that or just recently started? Mine started after mods which leads me to beleive it is lagging a little
Due to the extra compression.

The old model starter doesn't even drag with mine at 217 compression. The current starters are high torque versions, so if it's dragging, there's a problem and it's not compression.

I have a 40 briggs. the starter drags all the time. I figure I got a bad wire somewhere. when it won't crank i'll figure it out.

My 40 was dragging before and after mods, just figured out my battery is sulfated so I'm reconditioning it to see if that helps.

I found something out on my 40. If you turn the key on and let the fuel pump run and don't try to crank for about 15 seconds, it doesn't drag. Maybe some of y'all can try that and see if it helps, I know it doesn't drag at all on mine when I do that

I usually just turn the crank and go. I don't wait for anything. not interested in waiting for any amount of time. that's brigg's problem. lol
