Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
Got my atlas micro jacker on the way and im trying to decide between the new Tohatsu 40 or 50. Is it true the only difference between the two is a restrictor plate on the 40? I will be putting it on a 17/48 pro drive hull. Selling the pro drive motor and going back to a outboard.

Search on the forum “ salty Cajun” about this topic. Guy on there did some testing for tohatsu in SW La, I trust what he says

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
I went for the 40 instead and will be pulling the restrictor plate. The 50 was on back order .. It’s supposed to be here Monday.

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
I ended up doing the same when we got out of our lease due to no birds. I found a excellent condition Yamaha 70 2 stroke, damn thing looked brand new but was an older model. I know for fact I don't have the correct prop for it, but my 1748 that I built will jump out the water like a hydra-stream. The one main factor that I like about it is that it only weighs about 200 lbs. Hell the PD is 335 or close to if if I remember. My hull now sits even higher out the water and is much quieter than my PD. Since adding this outboard, I have ran into another mudmotor for free that I'm working on. So now I'll have the ability to swap back and forth if another "viable" lease comes available.

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
I swapped over for similar reasons also. I’m guessing I dropped 100 lbs off the back easily ..

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
I went to an F70 this year. It weighs almost the same (slightly less) than the GTR I believe. I’ve been very happy so far.

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
Mine is an older 2 stroke that I picked up that was in excellent condition. If there is one thing that I don't like about it, but I have figured out how to get it to work is that cold start system that is built into the middle carb. Its suppose to add more fuel to aid in starting, but it doesn't woek. Now, as I hit the key, I pump primer bulb once and it fires up in less than 2 revolutions. Once started, I can kill and start all day no issues. Other than that, this yamaha is rock solid.

Re: Buying a new outboard? Tohatsu
Just finished reading articles on the big block (v6) Tahotsu motors. Seems they are the Honda’s “built to Tahotsu specifications.” Guess that simply means paint them a different color and put “these” decals on them.
Basically, same motors. Bring them to your Honda dealers to service/perform maintenance. Substantial cost savings on them right now. But, I’m already committed to the Suzuki DF250AP. From a cost standpoint, the Tahotsu is definitely worth looking at.

Almost went with the Honda...and would have gone with the Tahotsu from a price standpoint. But, the gear ratio and 6 year warranty on the Suzuki is what baited me into it....
.......the fly by wire controls helped, too!
