I have read through most on here and still have a few questions. Right now i have a 35 with mikuni, heads decked .035, p&p with Manley valves, and a set of the old dual exhaust. I was somewhat pleased with it, although have had a few crank case issues and just recently burnt or cracked a piston running 87 octane. My fault but anyways....... right not i have it on a 1756, looking at a 2070 that only weighs 50# more. My motor needs a rebuild, but im trying to decide which way to go, i really like the sound of a 40hp efi, but does it need valves replaced? Not that big of a deal just curious. Im realy thinking i want to turbocharge it, not ask for alot out of it, but just a little more than what the 40hp has to offer, ive seen too many issues with the alum rods so i realy want to keep the factory rotating assembly maybe gap the rings for boost clearance...... What makes the 40hp a 40hp over the 35s? Also if i do go the turbo 40hp route. Who should i talk to about programming and dyno tuning it? Thanks for the discussion |

I have the 40efi, really great motor. Carry's a load with ease. Not a speed demon, but it's extremely consistent from my uses regardless of weight. From what I know (limited) the new 40efi block is identical to the 35/36 block with some internal differences, and EFI obviously. They strengthened the block, higher compression and new pistons/connecting rods. There's also a different cam in the 40 block and I believe the stock muffler is more of a performance muffler than the old ones, but I can't comment on that, my motor came with a Q muffler from the dealer. |

I went from a modded 37 to a stock 40. First thing I liked about it was how quite it was. I have been really Impressed with the low end power from the 40. It isn’t as strong as my old modded motor but it is much stronger than a stock 37. Biggest reason for me changing was my son, he has taken an interest with hunting and I don’t like the fact he can’t hear me when he has his ear muffs on while running my old motor. |

a stage 2 35 will always be stronger than a stock 40 with most off the shelf parts. |

I wondered about this... How does a sxs comparison of a 35 with heads, mikuni, and exhaust Go against a new 40 efi with exhaust and K&N Similar? Big difference? Support your troops. We support you. B. |

For the most part same ports and Head CC. Cam profile is 285L 222D Intake 285L 232D Exhaust. The piston used the smaller dish piston like the 25-31 big blocks Unlike the 35 that uses deeper dish piston. It also has a better tune as in refined fuel trims and a better ignition timing curve. It bigger improvement is the exhaust is essentially what you guys refer too as a "gutted stock". The piston/ rod is NOT compatible with a 37 due to the small end shape of the rod, and the Front crank journal is .080" long for a "thicker" block up front. |
