Post subject:  Peltier Hex Shaft for PD

How many PD guys have gone to this hex shaft offered by Peltier? This potentially solves a real weakness of the PD- props! I talked to Baggy about getting a 3 blade Mercury worked for a Level 3 Delta and I am looking for a good 2 blade to work to go with it. Any thoughts on the shaft- is it holding up and any thoughts on a 2 blade for PD to have worked?

A big blade would be good or the new gatortail 2 blade. Both are putting out good numbers when worked

Pd prop setups have always been a challenge. Definitely keep us updated, thanks

The weakness is one prop as the only option. The PD prop is fine, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best 2 blade on the market.

more prop selection with hex shaft, BUT the PD gearing will require different prop setups vs a GT or MB. So get ready to play the prop game.

I had a hex shaft on my gen 2 PD right before I got rid of it. Had a stage 2 motor and had a hard time finding a prop to work. I didn’t spend a lot of time looking for a prop, but tried out some friends props that had some strong GTRs. I tried a worked Merc 3 blade that wasn’t enough, a worked hammer that would send the cooler flying to the back of the boat when taking off, and I ended up settling on a Big Blade that was worked with a ton of cup. It was to the point where the blades were pretty thin and wouldn’t take much of a hit. I’d be interested to see what it would do had I had time to really get a new prop dialed in. The hex shaft is the only way to go, I went through 3 threaded shafts on that boat in a pretty short amount of time.

I’d have to ask around and see what they had as I’m not sure. I’m confident that I could have gotten something to work. At the time I was fed up with PD and ready to get rid of it. I’d take Baggys experience and word over mine.

Hex Shaft in hand and Baggy is shipping back the Fat Blade with a 13 pitch. I’ll be curious to see how this does. I’m all over the rev limiter right now with a PD prop but worn down about a 1/4”.

Because of the gearing, PDs can turn a higher pitched prop than a gatortail. That’s why they come out the box at 12.5 and worked to a 15 or so with work. Most big gatortails only can turn 12s or max 13s.

That will be much better than what you were running before. Running baggy props for me has made a 4-5 mph difference on my set up

Nothing wrong with it at all, just a different machine that requires a different pitched prop. Mercury’s are like that with Yamahas. The merc can turn a heavier pitched prop out the box offer the Yamaha because of the gearing

But you still need nuts.... I see many people turning too big of props... Just cause your stage 2 can spin a 12P prop doesn't mean you should spin a 13-13.5 on a big build... Let that big build turn the prop faster.... Faster the prop turns the faster you go without lugging.

This is a Delta level 3 build- nothing crazy. But I have to bury the stock PD prop to keep it of the reve limiter. So, I am hoping this will help bring the RPM’s down While letting the motor get to it’s full potential. This pop is really for hole shpt and load though not full top end. We’ll see though! I probably could just have Baggy work a PD prop...lol.

I like my new splined PD and use a Baggy worked stock prop.

That’s a great rig- heavy yes- but solid- and a great rig for bigger water where you could get in hairy situations.

I just got the prop back from Baggy. Before I swap out, I am considering having a PD prop worked by Baggy to get a fair comparison. But this guy looks pretty nice...not sure I’m going to have the patience!

That prop pushes a load extremely well. In my 18x48 skiff, we run over 29 with 4 people, my dog, ice chests, and full hunt load. I think you will be happy with that prop

I stopped by and talked to that Baggy guy a couple weeks ago. we talked about my gen 3 pd and options. he suggested me get a hex shaft, I told him I need a propman, not a bastardized prodrive. lol so he said to bring him a new 3blade prop cuz he has better luck with them than a new 2 blade prop. so......i'll just run my 2 blade and don't sweat it. when I need to go fast i'll just take the outboard.

Post subject:  Re: Peltier Hex Shaft for PD

what he told me was that he could improve a 3 blade more than he could improve a 2 blade for my pd. whatever that means.

the motor I have is not very popular with the clear water pirates, a 40briggs with a gen 3 lower unit. I wouldn't expect there to be much interest in playing with the prop to improve it. no money in it. lol the current stock 2 blade is a digging fool, so i'll just stick with it.

dude's probly a super genius with propellers, but I didn't feel warm and fuzzy after talking to him.

A lot of the Pd guys coming through the shop have been having a lot of success with the worked 3 blades on their prodrives, so he told you that since he is getting good feedback from other customers.

Listening to you and your posts, I don’t think you would be happy with a 3 blade at all because you are one of those old souls who doesn’t care for speed much and would rather load carrying and holeshot, so enjoy your 2 blade lol

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what would work on your motor since you are running a Frankenstein that nobody else is running right now, so it’s hard to tell you precisely what is going to work and not work on the “piecemeal prodrive” lol
