Post 36hp prodrive running on one cylinder
Hi i am new to this forum. I have searched without no resolution of my problems i am having. Hoping someone will be able to help me out.
I have a 36 hp prodrive it is a 2013 model. I just purchased it a month ago. After taking it out i realized it doesn't seem to be running right. Once home i removed one spark plug wire still runs, reinstalled spark plug wire and removed other side found unable to start. The engine has the iowa stage 1 upgade kit including cylinder heads, exhaust, k&n air filter. https://www.illowamarine.net/product-pa ... rmance-kit

I have done the following.
-swapped plugs to see if it follows it does not.
-performed cylinder compression tests on both cylinders got 150 psi on both ( i do hear some crank case air from around the push tubes. however this is on both sides so i do not think this will cause only one cylinder not to fire.
-performed cylinder leak down test both cylinders are reading within 10% of each other.
-swapped coils from one side to the other and gap them to 7 thousands.
-checked rocker levers appear to be the same on both sides. good movement from rocker levers.
-no bent push rods.

-Question is where do i go next with this. i read online these carburetors have two different size jets. Should the engine start and idle on ether one cylinder??? Can a carburetor cause only one cylinder to not fire?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP IN ADVANCE. I AM NEW TO THIS SITE SO IF THIS HAS BEEN GONE OVER IN A POST PLEASE POST THE LINK. THANKS.

Stock carb is a 2 barrel and has independent chambers, if you have swapped everything from one side to the other and have checked all you said you did, the only thing that stays common to one side is the carb. Clean jets and check the black a/f screw to see if it was tampered with.

Shoot some ether down the throat on the side that won't fire. If it fires, the trouble is in your carb.

Do remember, only cylinder 1 is doing the work when that thing is at idle with no load. When you pull cylinder 2 plug wire, there won't be a noticeable change in idle.

Thanks for the help guys. I did not know the carb was a double barrel. Ended up being the one cylinder air fuel screw was missing. The previous owner just serviced the carb before i bought it. Probably didnt reinstall it. Order parts today. Going to reset valve lash and see what happens. Any idea how to adjust air fuel screws with the performance heads?

Start at 1.5 turns from fully seated, go from there. Make sure and cut the plastic catch tabs off (a hot exacto knife works well for that, just go slow, or pop the plastic off completely). Plenty of air/fuel adjustment instructions on the internet to guide you in your tuning.

Is there such thing as adjusted too much out? Or too much in? I tried google and youtube. Didnt find a video or article that i felt was good information.

Hopfully u read this soon. So i adjusted the valves, installed the jets. New spark plugs. It runs however im struggling with the air fuel screws.. the dead cylinder is now running at 455 degrees on manifold and the other cylinder is about 300 degrees on the manifold. I assume this difference is from the air fuel screws. Any suggestions?

took it out Saturday. runs a lot better still at 27mph. surprising even with only 1 cylinder running i was getting top speed. i think my prop may be worn out, its sharp on the edges and has some good nicks in it. boat is a 1648 alumacraft with a 36hp prodrive. what should top speed be around. yes yes yes i know mud motors are for mud and hole shots not for speed. but just curious.

Heat up the tip of a sharp knife and melt off the limiting tang. Don't try to pry at all. Very easy to break them

I used a power probe soldering iron with the knife attachment
