BPS said they won't be developing the turbo kit for the 5000 series EFI motor because the compression would be too high to be reliable. My question is, can I have some thicker head gaskets made to bring the compression down to "Factory levels" but still benefit from the "worked" heads.

Does anyone know what the factory compression on a 37 EFI is? EDIT: it's 8.5:1

Should be the same as the 35, and should be on the Briggs site somewhere.

Yes, you can probably go with a thicker head gasket, and benefit from the better flow on a set of worked heads. Would it help get compression right? Dunno. Still might be too high once you add boost.

If they will tell you how much your heads are decked we can estimate the cc’s of your current heads. Bowl work can be done to bring the cc’s back into check. At this point you are completely on your own for tuning and better know whats up when playing with fire. Timing curve, afr, fuel pressure etc is all going to play a part. Unless you are a serious gearhead and your motor is a hobby then I wouldn’t go there. If you are that guy then badass and keep us updated

Boosting a Briggs is a waste of fucking time.

I heard the 40 has a better block. Is there any truth to that?

Its got a touch more meat in a spot. Will still seep at the normal spot from factory. I have found that its the way you setup the rear cover even on the old blocks can solve the weak block issues. Knock on wood hurt blocks is a thing of the past
