Post 37efi help
I have a 2018 Gatortail 37efi. Just changed the stock air filter to a K&N. Idled the boat for about 1.5hrs to tow another boat to the ramp. Now my boat is having issues. It’ll start sometimes but it is very hesitant. If it does start I can’t give it much throttle without it dying. If I put it in drive it instantly dies. Any ideas? Unable to pull codes. Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like fuel starvation - check fuel connections, vent tank, etc., but I know the 37's had some wiring harness issues that acted like that as well. I thought all of that was worked out by 2018, but not totally sure. May be worth doing some research on the wiring harness.

After a little more research it’s looking like a fuel issue. Seems like it’s not getting enough fuel. Fuel pump is working and the lifter pump is kicking in before i turn the engine over. Changed the fuel filter and all lines seem to be secured. Maybe the fuel water separator could be causing issues? Any other ideas?

Dump the tank upside down and shake - get new 93 octane gas...
Unscrew water separator filter and dump it - disconnect
fuel line from engine and reprime into a glass jar to see if
you have trash or dirt in the lines - and run it...

Towing can lead to carbing up spark plugs or overheating the engine...

Never hurts to clean up the spark plugs or change them out...

While plugs are out - compression test - 120 to 130 both sides is ideal...
That will eliminate a stuck valve causing you to only run on 1 cylinder...

Last if it will run - try taking one spark plug wire off at a time while
running as the Briggs will run on one cylinder - if it dies hard only
when you pull one side but not the other - you have no fire to the
other side and you unplugged the good side...

While on the topic of fuel - I only use ethanol free gas. Ethanol in fuel will try to absorb water if left to sit. With the swings in temperature this time of year, you are bound to have some condensation in a tank which is then absorbed into regular E10 types of gasoline. Even 93 octane pump gas is blended with ethanol. If its a stock motor, you probably won't notice a difference between octanes and performance. I've never run a water separator, but I would definitely bypass that to see if its the culprit and start with fresh fuel.

Lets see, you changed out the air filter too allow more air, which in turn means less fuel or leaner and now it doesn't run right......Gee, what could it possibly be ? ?

FWIW....LOTS of people have added K&N air filters to carb motors and have had no issues.
