I picked up an older 10hp longtail the other day four 400 dollars and it appears in good shape. It hadnt been cranked in two years and with fresh gas it fired right up. I noticed the motor had been swapped out at some point and that the shaft key on the motor had a little movement in it. I was wondering if anyone had ever welded the key to the crankshaft and how did it work out. Thanks.

It'll work out fine until you shear it. Then have fun trying to change it.

Just make the right key for it. I mean if ya need an offset key or something, thats nothin a file and a lil elbow grease wont fix. Is the keyway on the motor a different size than the one in the u joint?

You cant just drill and tap a set screw to hold it in place?

X3 on a set screw. I did that to mine and it never budged in 3 years I ran it like that.
