I was on the kohler website looking at the specs of the 34hp - 40hp kohler engines and noticed the specs were all the same. So I called the kohler dealer to see where they got the 6 extra hp from and he told me they got the 6 extra hp from the carburetor aspiration.

Since the 34-40hp models are the same but have different carbs on has anybody bought a 34hp kohler and put a mikuni on and then tested the engine to see if it this claim was right and had over 40hp since the mikuni will outperform a stock kohler carb.

I would bet the 34 hp is about 300/400 dollars cheaper right?

When you guys are putting mukuni carbs on your 35/36 van what are your final hp and torque ratings after the upgrade.

I want to say the mikuni adds somwhere between 3-5 h.p. I don't know anyone that has actually put one on the dyno other than maybe EVT. Send drake1 a pm....he could give you more info on the actual hp/torque gains.

How much of a difference will a compression of 8:8.1 compared to a compression of 8:5.1 make hp and torque wise.

None.

Wouldn't a 34hp kohler with a mikuni and a 40hp kohler with a mikuni carb have the same hp and torque ratings, since the 34hp kohler and the 40hp kohler are the same engines, with the same specs, but with different carbs on.

So wouldn't this statement be true?

With all things being equal (bore....stroke......rpm.........comp. ratio......etc...) yes. It would be the same engine.

I never noticed that they both had same bore and stroke (61ci)... Restrictor plate in the carb? Hell yea buy the cheaper one and spend the money to buy the mikuni it all the power loss it in the carb setup.

If you google oem cams for 34hp kohler the sites say the cams are for 34-40 engines.
