 Tiny Tach - wrong rpms
i know it's a stupid question (but i ain't scared). the tiny tach on my gtr35 came loose - one of the 2 rivet heads holding it busted off. it was hanging by the wires & now the rpm's are wrong - it says something stupid/wrong like 300-500 when i'm idling & i know by sound it's more like 1350. it will also switch to hours vs just rpm's. i didn't have time to take the front cover off & trace the wires. anyway, is that what i need to do / is it as simple as a loose wire connection? thanks for ya help brah

Re: Tiny Tach - wrong rpms
Its only a single wire (older ones had a ground on it too) that goes to your plug wire.
I had a tiny tach go out on my last motor- it got some water in it. The last run before it completely went it was reading 1/2 the RPMs (WOT it was showing like 2100) when I turned off the motor it showed gibberish on the tach and never worked again. You will probably end up having to replace it but thats a 5 min job.

Re: Tiny Tach - wrong rpms
i traced the wire & it splits in 2 w/ one going to a ground & one going to a plug wire w/ 4-5 tight wraps around that. i don't know how to get the choke knob off (also, how do you do that?), but what i can see of the wire from the tach & the connections looks fine. i still have ~ 5 months of warranty on da engine - so i can try that - but what else can i check myself? the hours seem fine - it's just the rpms running about 1/2. it ain't super important for da motor operation, but nice to have/see. thx

Re: Tiny Tach - wrong rpms
Just get a new one and be done with it. The new ones have a much faster response time. They went from 2 seconds to a 1/2 second response and they have a resettable hour meter along with the non-resettable one. It makes it easy to keep up with scheduled maintenance.
