i just installed my tiny tach today. im not to sure what im supposed to run at. i idle at around 1200 and wide open with no load(not in water) i get 3800 max. to me both numbers seem to ver fairly low can anyone help? |

Sounds right for a stock motor... Over 4000 and you need performance parts to stay reliable.... Real question is RPM at full throttle while running in deep or shallow water... That will tell you if your prop matches you rig weight and power... |

anywhere from 1050 to 1200 for idle, personal preference, just enough to keep running while in gear in the water. Max outa the water, I'd go 4200 on a stock engine, it'll never spin that with any load, so no use going over that. |

Not really. The maufacterer (briggs) says 3600 rpm for most of their engines. So 3800 is actually a good number. You could possibly turn them up more though. |

ok so now my question is how do i get my idle up while wide open with no load. i only need to get it up 100-150 rpm. iv heard some talk about springs. will this help? |

Why do you care ??? What matters is what happens when its in the water.... What do you turn running wide open - light load ??? If you were turning 3800 like that it would be different.... |

Deadbird, Ya'll are talkin RPM on a motor with a "surfacing prop" - where prop is catchin air - as designed, and RPM come a bit easier.... Our man is running a longtail - which is not a "surfacing prop" - so what matters in his case is RPM under load - which he has not posted.... And if he is not getting close to the RPM limit imposed by his governor, why adjust it ??? |
