Post Head work question
Is it worth it to just have heads done without cam, carb and exhaust? I dont want to run really high rpm just want to run in the upper range of stock rpm.Currently running 3650 in water,4190 on trailer. Also,if heads are done are high performance rods necessary?

yes and no
most mods go hand in hand. if you get your heads decked a lil it will give you more compression along with a mild port and polish will allow the air to flow better. You will see some gains with the stock carb and exhaust , but it will really wake it up with those two

Its making more compression and the porting makes it flow better. Air in and air out is what a K&N air filter and high flow exhaust will help you with to give the RPM gains.

I ran heads with high flow exhaust and stock carb for over 80 hours. Worked well.

What happened after 80 hours?

Is a Marsh Mellow a high flow exhaust?

Is there an aftermarket muffler thats not too much louder than stock? Are aftermarket pushrods a must have as some say yes, some say no.

BPS, EVT, and Marshmellow all make a quiet exhaust. They are all close to the same db's as stock. All of them will let the engine breathe a lot better than the stock.

To answer your push rods ?'s....

Thanks for the response dpd.

I may just do my heads and then wait on the carb. I'll run a hi-flow air filter (K&N) and see how it does. Probably better to put the $ to moving the controls for trim, start switches to the tiller arm while I've over at Gator-Tail this weekend.

I'm sold on the Mikuni only question is when I'm going to do buy it, and what will this due coupled with the headwork to the life on my engine. Maybe I need to start a thread and have some people chime in.
