Post Striped oil plug
Has anyone had their oil drain plug strip out? It still has a place where it gets somewhat tight but don't want to chance it. I have tryed using teflon tape and it helped but not to my satisfaction.
I guess what I really want to know is if you'll think it would be alright to install a heli coil on it. Would it be ok to drill and tap the heli coil with the oil drained and then use a little hose to vaccum out what ever shavings their would be and then add oil and drain a few times before starting it up?
Thanks

The helicoil should work fine. When you drill and tap it, make sure to put some grease on the bit and tap so the shavings will stick to that. As far as for doing it with the motor assembled, if it was mine I would do it assembled and just vacuum then flush with diesel.

Check with an auto parts store. They carry different plugs just for that reason. Self taping oversized replacements.

if your gonna drill and tap it put alot of grease on your drill bit and thread cutter and that will help contain the shavings.

Thanks guys everything done. Went with the helicoil and letting it dry in place. Used the special tap that came with the kit and cut a few threads at a time with alot of grease and cleaned hole every time with vacuum cleaner with small pipe inserted in end of vacuum cleaner and duct taped to close up hole and took shavings out no problem. Will still flush engine out before cranking.

Poker1, I saw your answer to late. I had already started with the helicoil.
Squirrel, when using a helicoil there is no drill bit involved. There was a special tap with the kit that made the bigger threads while using the old threads as a guide.

Thanks again.
