Hi everyone, I just purchased my first MM (PD 36hp marine) this spring and need some advise on it. I bought it to put on a weldbilt 1760 bowfishing boat. I rarely ever run in mud but do run shallow on occassion and hit rocks, bottom and stumps. Ive put a couple outboards out of comission doing this and thats why I went with a surface drive. My boat is 17' 60" flat bottom, 28" sides and an 89" beam. loaded down with all the batteries lights, gennerator, troller ect. the boat weighs aprx 1450lbs. With 2-200lb people added on the boat can get up on plane and run's good pushing about 3900 rpm's. By adding one more person the boat cannot get up on plane and just plows water and probly only does 10-12mph at about 3500rpm's. I almost always shoot with 3 ppl so I'm looking for what I need to do to get the boat to plane out with 3. I have been reading some of the back posts and got a few Ideas but read something about the marine version of the PD not being able to be modded much. I would appreciate your guy's input on what would be the best route for me to go and would changing to a 3 blade prop help any? Thanks! |

That's a lot of boat for a 36hp motor. I'm guessing you tried moving anything that is able to be moved? Slide the generator, and gear back towards the rear. A longer boat would have an easier time planing out that load. As far as mods go. The cdi's have a built in revbox. You can still do the same mods to the motor, but you'll have to play with your prop to keep the rpm's down. More pitch/diameter. Any more power is obviously gonna help with the load, and the bigger prop will also help. |

I have as much as I can in the back, I actually had to move a couple things more towards the middle because with everything in the back it would submerge the lower unit up to the cavitation plate with it trimmed up all the way. |

Get head work done (port and polish) (oversived stainless valves and shimmed valve springs) dat should solve your problems wit out interferin wit da built in rev limiter. |

i run a 1754 with bowfishing deck and generator, ice chest radio, ice chest, fish barrell and 3 people when we fish. my boat barely planes this load. One thing you have to look at is weight placement. also your boat has a different transom than that of one of the mm brand boats. i agree with qc. but i would def move some weight to the front to see if it could plane out like that. |

I will move some weight around the boat this weekend and see it makes a difference. |
