Post 20x50 new WC build thread
Here's some pics of the progress. Gonna try and keep this thread and just bump it when new pics come a long.

20x50 WC Custom Hull
3/16" bottom, 1/8" sides; 50" bottom width, 70" beam width;side heights 21"; 9 1x2" longitudinal braces for bottom support.
10" staggered cat-walks

A lot of unique features getting thrown into this, starting with the layout. Staggering the cat-walks to offer best of both- load carrying (mounds of decoys), pax seating, and use during fishing season. Polishing the look off by staggering the gunnel rails parallel to their cat walks on each side. The bare side of the fish deck will have two basic grab handles.

More features:
- Nose hitch w/ quick-connect shear pin: includes a removable stumpguard for taking on cypress trees at full speed; quick and seamless disconnect for attaching a portable winch or anything that fits in a 2" receiver (this stumpguard will be unique in its own way and have its own features)
- Vertical top open gun box (rear pax side cat-walk) with retractable arm (I'd like to see this be one massive top open lid, may end up having to be 2 lids); dry storage in front and rear driver seat.
- Fishfinder: Lowrance Ti 7
- Stereo (still up for debate): Either the dual wetsounds sound bars with the 8" sub (like $1700 bucks on amazon  ); or I'm going to piece together a system w/ kicker tower speakers and a 8"-10" sub, whichever will put out the most 'bang for buck'. Stereo suggestions welcomed.
Paint: Dark duck green with solid/clean finish
Floors: Still up for debate
Trailer: EZ track premium

I'd like to swing the new Go Devil 40 FNR to pair with this hull, just depends on how the budget plays out getting the hull wrapped up and shipped to UT.

Pete's been solid, great to work with, been patient with me and has been open to all the ideas I've thrown out there. Excited to see how this layout falls together. Opinions welcomed. Thanks.

Badass, and as you can see Pete doesn't mess around with the floor strength. He builds them knowing they are gonna hit shit, lol

FYYYURED UP! Yup and I need something that'll hold up to the abuse. We're tossing the idea around of running the drivers side cat-walk all the way down to the grab bar. More pics to come.

WC's got my recommendation. When I was back home over Christmas I drove down there, Pete gave me the tour and we walked through everything. Continue to hear nothing but good things, good people good business (thumbs up).

Post Re: 20x50 new WC build thread
If you've ever carried 12 dozen decoys with 2 dozen goose floaters, 2 or 3 laydowns and then some (routine spread for Great Lake area) in a hull with cat-walks that wrap all the way around the boat... The idea was it'd open up more hull space toting big decoy loads. Seats in the middle of the boat anywhere basically just become obstacles IMO, wanted some wide open floor but also seating around the edges. Fishing season toss a cooler in the middle and hope back and forth throwing baits.

I'm not really concerned with cat walks impacting re-sale value I mean these boats aren't houses or vehicles how else you think all these folks got turnt upside down on boat loans. For a tiller rig, this is gonna be my rig. Too much hard earned money gone into it.

Decided earlier this afternoon we're gonna run the drivers side cat walk all the way to the grab bar. Pete suggested for support overall and will help support the grab bar assembly.

Still planning on the 40FNR? That's a really nice hull you have coming together there.

A hull like that with a tiller steer Hoss on the back would probably run pretty good I'd imagine.

I get you wanted to think it out, but I believe you over thought it. I have a 1748 and have had 18+ dozen and 3 people in my boat, and my layout isn't a jigsaw puzzle. Worked fine. I also just last weekend had 3 dozen in a different boat layout and it was a pain. You should've gone full 6 or 8 inch catwalks and been done with it. The rails staggered won't be as useful as having gone shorter but both sides front and back. Anyway, enjoy your boat.

Post Re: 20x50 new WC build thread
yah I hear all that and I never said I thought it was impossible to pile 18 dozen decoys in a boat with cat walks that run all the way around. There's no one set way to do things, initially I wanted 100% open floor plan specifically to help with piling decoys but i like cat-walks for fishing. I wanted to try something different. I think Pete's suggestion to run the drivers side cat walk all the way down is a good call. Everything else is staying the same, I didnt want a standard cookie cutter hull going the custom route.

I dont think I'll end up wishing I ran cat-walks all the way around. Leaving the hole on the pax side will help for piling decoys.

Post Re: 20x50 new WC build thread
Initially the idea behind the gunnel rails was that they'd match the cat-walks so everything would be symmetrical, and I thought with trolling motor mounted those gunnel rails staggered that way would really pop. That was the sex appeal thought behind it.

AND I've always found gunnel rails most handy as something solid to grab hold of when you stick the boat.

Typically from my experience, when you stick a boat and have 2 bodies with you. You get one guy on the front end and one guy on the back end to jiggle it out. Two guys jerking back and forth both on the front end when the boats stuck isnt as effective IMO. That was the purpose thought behind it and I didn't want to run them end to end. I want plenty of space getting in and out of the boat with gunnel rails not in the way.

I knew a lazy mofo that only painted one side of his boat, he never got around to doing the other side and then hunting season snuck up on him. The one side was painted like 8 years ago, that boat really stands out at the ramp. Your comment about not having some cookie cutter hull reminded me of that guy.

That boat is shaping up to be a beast, looking good. I’m all for design choices that focus on performance over appearance.

That’s a good looking boat. From what I’ve seen on here it looks like he overbuilds boats which i like. I have an 1860 now but will go with an 1854 or 2054 next time. It will be a tight race between uncle j and wc customs. They both make awesome looking boats.

Gunnel rails are on. Bring the shit I still think I like them this way. With everything else coming together squeaky clean and trolling motor mount I think it’ll look badass. Different but badass.

So I'll say your setup is unconventional, but is your boat and the staggered cat walk looks better than I thought. I will say, no matter the boat, rails the full length.

1. Can grab from anywhere to manipulate
2. Handle for in boat ie picking up decoys on deep water, getting in a layout boat etc
3. You can attach blind , grass, cover during season
4. Can tie gear down on highway trips, with proper netting.
5. Can tie off anywhere

It will be on my next rig

Keeping up with the progress.[THUMBS UP SIGN]

Yes counting down the days. Carp and walleye spawn kicks off in UT eta like 1 week so we’re cutting it a little close. I’m pleased with it tho I mean I think it looks damn good.

The platform’s used, was a game time thing long story but bought it used from a guy in Tyler who was able to drop it off at Pete’s. Paid less than half the price for what I’d pay to have one fabbed up. That’s the main reason I went with it. Never saw it in person but figured the savings was worth rolling the dice a little. Pete checked it out good before I bought said it was solid and I knew the guy I bought it from.

It’s definitely a different style platform. Does it really hang as far off the side as it appears? That should be a fun balancing act

Haha yah well I guess I’ll find out. If anything I think I like how much it hangs over cuz it’ll give me better light coverage and hopefully give me some better shots. Balancing I don’t think it’ll b to much of a issue boat’s gonna b a tank I’ll find out tho before long

She’s a wrap. Put her on a truck yesterday and she’s on her way to UT.

20x50 WC Custom hull
Motor: 2019 Go Devil 40 horse FNR
Whistles:
- Lowrance Ti7
- 54” Minn Kota Powerdrive 55 lb thrust
Bells:
- Dual wetsounds speaker bars with separate volume control knob;
- 10” wetsounds subwoofer with separate bass control knob;
- 500 watt wetsounds amplifier.
- surface mount LED reverse lights
- 12” quad row light bar with removable light bar bracket
- Platform lights: still up for debate
- Ginny: 3500 Watt predator

Got lots of rigging to do this weekend. Couldn’t be more fired up. First brand new piece of equipment I’ve ever bought myself. Pete did a hell of a job. When I get hull decked and motor broke in I’ll do another post in the reviews section for a package review w/ load test info and more pics.
