Post short vs tall transom
first post..heck of a board you guys have here :D

I have been researching my first mud boat that I hope to have bought by this coming season. I have a question that I have not been able to get an answer to...

what are the pro's and con's of a short and a tall transom boat?

If you run any kind of big water better go tall transom

You may not always sink in big water with a short transom but the question isn't IF its WHEN will it happen

I ran alot of open water with a short side short transom prodrive boat and it was pretty scary especially with a load in big waves...nothin ever happened thank god but couldnt stand that any longer and went tall sides and tall transom for safety

If you are only runnin swamps and shallow areas and such you could probably get away with short but even backwash from the motor could flood the boat

I have a gator trax gator hide with 16" sides and short transum. The boat runs great in ruff water (little wet but good). But if you lost eng power in it and got sidewayz on some rollers it could get scary.

Somethin to think about if you hunt in ruff stuff alot or you have youngins with you!

I have a short transom 1848 gd. I really like it, and its convienent for running lines, getting back in the boat in waders...stuff like that. You do have to be careful of backwash, and not letting big mamma waves hit you over the side (this is a common sense issue though...in other words...river wouldn't own one :D ).

This year I have started taking my daughter out riding some (she's three) and I will say this...if she starts going more...I'll be shopping for a tall transom.

Seriously what are the advantages to ever getting a short transome other than:

1) Saving money
2) Being cutt down and the handle on a tall tansom being to tall for you to run standing up. I bet it $ucks jumping up to twist the throttle.

River may not be "tall"

But he is taller than you.

That is much the same scenario as being chased by a man eating lion, I don't have to be the fastest, I just have to be a little faster than the slowest.

I guess what I am saying is I am secure in my insignificance.

:D :D :D
