 Excel Boat Performance
Im looking at ordering an 1754 Excel F4 with a .125" bottom in either 5052 or 5086.
Id rather have the 5086 but I wanted to know how much heavier it would make the boat and how much of a difference in performance it would cause?

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
Whenever I was doing weights with an online calculator each one i used said the 5086 was always a couple pounds lighter than the 5052.

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
That excel will be a great boat if you stay in the boat lanes and never hit anything.

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
.125 5086 don't skimp on that its well worth it. the others (5052) won't last, unless you stay in open water.

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
I run an 18x54 F4 with .125 5086 in cypress knob heaven. I am pretty hard on stuff and it has held up fine. There are definitely tougher boats on the market but as long as your not stupid (seems to be a problem with alot of duck hunters these days) you cant beat the comfort of the F4. As far as speed is concerned mine is just as fast as any mud boat I've run with around here. Hooked up to the back of the Powerstroke my excel outruns everybody I've met

You got to watch out for all the Excel haters on here. I love my Excel boat and have never been anything but impressed with it. Haters gonna hate.

Out of most people on this thread, Gary speaks the least shit.
Woodie, you push a piece of shit xpress so what the hell you even know about boats!
I don't run an Excel, happy with what I have, but DB8 isn't gonna run his mouth without havin the knowledge to back it up.

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
i would never own an excel even if it was given to me. My good buddy got a new excel 1751 with hunt deck made of 5052 less than a year ago and when i saw it in the driveway i thought, "man thats a nice looking rig" and thats all it would be nice LOOKING. after about 1 month the single brace going from the transom to the motor mount plate on the back the HD started to crack at the welds. Not wanting to be out of a boat and him being a welder he fixed it himself. a little while after that were about to launch the boat to go make a hunt till we start unstrapping the boat and there is a crack through the stern of the boat about 5-6 inches long an inch under the backer plate they put to mount the motor on. he finally says that enough and contacts excel and is told that this is a common problem with the single braces and they can fix it. is ben probably 2 months since they got the boat to redo the whole rear section, they told him its done but he has to wait on there next shipment. knowledge of the properties of aluminum tell you that 5052 is stiffer/harder than 5086 which means it is more prone to cracking while 5086 being a bit softer will bend. why excel would build a "mud" boat out of 5052 when everyone else is using 5086 seems a bit on the unintelligent side. Gator trax, gator tail, go devil, prodrive, uncle j, deep south fab imo are the way to go

 Re: Excel Boat Performance
Great boat if you use your head and not grind stumps at 20 plus mph, I loved how mine cornered. I however had the 100gauge and needed a 125 with and open floor plan.
