Prodrive with hunt deck - why not??
Alright i've searched and tired of reading through bull shit about why a hunt deck is good for belt drives and I know what they do because I have one but i've only found little bit of info on prodrive with hunt deck
I'm asking for a customer not myself.
Boat is 1744 with 20" sides will be tall transom
I know most hunt decks on gator trax boats are really long (or seem long) This one will only be about 18-20" enough to clear the hydraulic trim ram. Which is one negative i've already found but the motor does have hydraulic reverse.
From driving a PD on a non hunt deck boat for 5 years I got used to kneeling down on the floor to work the motor when in reverse and really trying to grind/eat your way out of or through somewhere, so I could see that being a little harder. Also I know will have to extend the tiller which to me seems like it would be a pain because it would make you reach wider to turn.
I know the advantages of less backwash, its a nice step and so on and I know the disadvantage of losing space but for those that have had boats with hunt decks and a prodrive please tell why you don't like it from driving perspective.

I wouldn't want it for the reasons you stated.
I do a sport deck if anything.

It would really depend on the area in which he runs most willet.
If he seldomly put himself in positions that required lots of "grinding" it would be a plus. But I could also see where it would be a bitch if he had to constantly switch directions.

Have gator Trax with pd and hunt deck. The first year I had the tiller extension and moved the control box to grab bar because extension twist with throttle and I had to reach far back to use box. Then I talked to kp and he built me a solid one piece tiller. Still have box on grab bar because for me it works better.
Unless you are at idle and making a hard right turn never been an issue.
Reverse is not an issue either.
The whole tiller smashing your hand is no different than regular setup.
If you do it get a solid tiller and stay away from the extension.

Re: Prodrive with hunt deck - why not??
I ran a PD with FPR on the back of a GatorTrax boat with hunt deck. I used the tiller extension. At the time I had to separate the hydraulic trim gear from the motor mount and put it on the inside of the boat. Kind of a pain in the butt. I also disliked having to park my butt on the hunt deck to reach the reverse release handle. Now, this situation can be remedied today with either the hydraulic reverse option or that add on remote reverse pin puller that that feller on this board makes and sells.
I like the GT hunt deck boats and I like the Prodrive motors. No reason not to put them together.

Just make sure you have enough room for hydraulic trim ram.
