Post custom work done
Just got my rig back from builder. Had a custom blind and few other things added. Came out pretty good IMO.

Looks like your builder let a seagull shit his welds onto your frame in molten aluminum form.. got any pics of it in the up position? What are you going to cover it with?

Also, how much does that weigh?

Looks real sturdy. I like it! Is that a trolling motor mount up front?

Looks real nice and well built. After experimenting with several designs for pop up blinds I have found that simplicity is the key. Too many moving parts becomes frustrating in the field in real conditions. So I see two issues with this design. It will be awkward to cast and retrieve decoys over the elevated frame and elevating the blind in the feild will be a two man job. Hope it works well for you.

vertical-I dont need the welds to be pretty, just to do thier job, its all going to be covered anyhow. probly gonna cover it w/ some nylon netting and grass sheets for now. Not sure how much it weighs but its light, bout the same or less than my buddies EMT conduit blind but mine is sturdier than his.

Robin1020-yeah thats the troll motor mount, whole thing comes off when not needed, he also made me a bow light bracket that fits in same spot when its off the boat.

Dguidry-I agree with you about simplicity, however the entire blind can be raised and lowered with one hand by one person. And entire blind will come off boat when not needed. With blind frame in the up position and the scissors down dekes will not be a problem. Once they are out I just lift the scissors and use straps to hold them in place.

BTW the reason I had him make one is the boat is only 17'x38" so I had problems getting a blind that was tall enough to cover me b/c boat is narrow.

Looks really nice to me man. I bet it won't be all floppy like some I've seen. Do the mounts on the boat come off when you don't have blind on?

Here is best pic I could get before work with bars up somewhat. And there are two spud holes on back of boat and one through the frond deck that anchor it using 8ft aluminum poles.

Trust me when I tell you not to set up for standing and forget about expecting to sit then stand to shoot. I don't care how stable your boat might be with spuds; you will get very pissed off at yourself when you consistently miss ducks cause you're not be able to get on sight quickly enough from all the movement and frame interference. You are better off working concealment into a blind with lower sides the best way you can.

i hunt 4 guys consistently out of my boat and have no problem whatsoever standing up to shoot or sitting then popping up to shoot. i use 2 spud poles and my boat stays pretty stable. you wont have any problem at all with that blind.

I shot some skeet at a fancy shooting range in Atlanta once with my brother in law. I've hunted ducks out of a pirogue all my life and was pretty darn good at it. My brother in law was a pretty good shot and was on the Tulane trap team. I bet him and his buddies I could out shoot them from a sitting position just like I hunted from my pirogue. I won't lie like Craig would and tell you I beat all of them but the only one who shot better was my brother in law.

You may loose a bit of follow through in the sitting position but you will get the bird to bead quicker. I hope your setup works well for you. Let us know once the season starts.

the width of your boat threw me off at first but i get what y mean. since its so narrow the legs on the blind arent as long as everyone seems to think... hey i guess you could leave the lower legs down and just sit on the floor

nice solution by the way, it sure beats havin the arms hangin way out the boat cause there tall enough for you but too big for the boat. it deff beats not shootin ducks cause the blind isnt tall enough to cover your belt when your in your seat!!

Does the frame rigidly attach to the boat in the front or does it just sit in the holes on the deck and do the holes in the deck have a bottom if not where does the water they are going to fill up with drain to I like that there are no posts sticking up un the front deck when the blind is off

Not trying to hate on your blind like everybody else, I really like the design of the frame!

The one thing I would change is I would bring the top rails out towards the gunnels and shorten them so when you close it up it tries to shut inwards on itself. You can tie straps so it cant completley shut and then when you are ready to shoot, push on it and they close to the outside around the main frame.

Did that make any sense?
