Ok so i have a 1548 g3 with a short transom that's only rated for a 25hp. Now i had a 2stroke mercury 25hp on there but i sold it cause it couldn't get me where i wanted Togo for the first half of the season cause the water was too low. So I want a mud motor. Im thinking of getting a 35hp dixie. But Im not sure if a surface drive will be better than a ponytail. The area i hunt and fish is potholes reservoir in Moses lake Washington. And i do have a couple mile run from where i launch to where it gets skinny. So any info would help. When i hunt i have 2-3 people plus dog and three dozen decoys. Thanks again Nathan

i dont see a problem with a sd. i hunt all over from big water to swampy marsh the only real advantage u might get with a longtail is turning radius i own a Dixie 23 and its bad ass plus Ben and the guys have the best customer service around, he's a humble guy and is just trying to strive on satisfactory to his customers. he makes a very good product and is committed on mnaking you happy

I run a 15-48 G-3 with a 23hp Dixie it runs great. If you go with the 35 you will have no problems. The 23 runs good but the boat will be alot better with a 35.

My last boat was a 1648 with a 31hp SD and it got me anywhere I wanted to go. Had a longtail before but once I got the SD I'd never go back. When in doubt on motor size, go with the bigger of the two. Just my 2 cents
