I believe this is the right forum, does anyone know of a website that has good plans to build a mud boat? Haven't had any success finding. Thanks in advance for your help.

if u need plans to build a boat, u probably shouldnt be building ur own boat

Is it the same for houses, or do most people use plans?

Eat a dlck. Having a basic set of measurements would save a lot of time, energy, and costly mistakes that would invariably result from trial and error. How stupid of you to suggest otherwise.

Have a look on youtube there is a discovery series called swamp people and one of the guys builds mud boats. He has a screen shot of his plan on aluminium plate. Its basically a sheet of alloy with a sheet shorn in 2 welded up both sides, a simple rolled front with a sub frame in the centre and a pipe welded around the to. Pm me if you can't find it.

let me clarify. I just moved down to galveston county Tx from missouri immediately after college, so I dont have a lot of money just yet. Seeing as how all of the hunting I did in missouri consisted of hunting flooded corn fields, never had much of a need for a boat nor did I spend much time around one, so i would inevitably not know enough to write up any resemblance of boat plans. I know someone down here who owns a weld shop and has offered to help construct it if I can get good detailed measurements. I would want a 1648, but that is essentially all I know. He has never built a boat before, but with some good measurements, we could certainly give it a try. I have no clue, maybe buying a used boat would be cheaper than the materials to build a boat.

Point is a boat would give me more options for hunting down here, that is the end goal.

Wood is always a good alternative material to build a boat and all you need are basic carpentry skills. However, there are trade offs:

You could always build you a boat made completely out of wood filler, too.

Draggin...uh, I'm not building a boat.

Secondly, many things far less complicated than a boat are built with plans. If someone is building a boat for the first time, even if they have experience fabricating other complex items, it's simply undeniable that a basic plan would be helpful, unless one is expected to have intrinsic knowledge regarding things like proper bracing, transom height and angle, side angles, etc.
In regard to your last comment regarding how much metal to buy, check the OP-the question, as I read it, does not ask:
Hey, I'm building a boat. How much metal do I need?

You're honestly arguing that a plan wouldn't be a good idea for someone building a boat for the first time?

No my argument is simply, if u need plans to build a 16 ft boat, maybe u should pay someone who knows how becaus u clearly don't know wtf ur doing.
