Is a gatortail .125 hull thick enough on the bottom to prevent hooks and dents within reason? I mentioned the name because i dont know how they are braced. I will ocasionally run up on a stump but not every day.

yep.....125 and longitudinal runners help prevent hooking, but it always depends on how hard ya hit that stump.

they all will eventually hook and dent. You're not in East Texas so just get what you want and run it like hell.

As long as you use common sense and don't run through stump fields you'll be fine.

1/8 will hook if you hit stumps eventually. If its every once and a while I wouldn't worry about it but if its a every day thing I would go thicker. I've run 2 1/8 boats and 1 .100 boat and from now on I will have 3/16. But I hit stumps just about every time I get in the boat up here.

Here is a gatortail boat. Is this a good design?

Post subject:  Re: Hooks

The only point I will make is that it doesn't take a dangerous situation to hook a 1/8" hull with 5 longitudinal braces. That was a false statement. If you run up here in texas corp lakes, it takes 7 braces with a 3/16" bottom minimum. Just about every trip out it's very possible you will hit multiple stumps just below the surface that will jack up the bottom. If I was down in south la, 1/8" works just fine.

Robbie,
Isn't your current gator tail boat .125? You plan on going bigger?

I've seen what La built .125 hulls look like after a few years in east Tx lakes, they get hooked at the transom and grooved between the braces.

My 1648 GD boat. I beat the hooks out with a dead blow. Noticed the other day that I cracked two of the welds on the runners. It never ends. :x

I wish I had some pictures of my Pro-Drive boat. You could have flipped that thing over, and sprayed water on it, and had pools deep enough for gold fish to swim around in.

Dude I know has a gatortrax and if I hadn't been riding in it I would have bet 500$ it wouldn't plane out. Looks like you flipped it and beat it with a sledge hammer.
