Sent my check in for a uncle j 1854 hybrid v. I’m torn between a hunt deck w/ gtr or a regular transom with a pro drive. I have an outboard that will work on either type transom in the meantime while I find a mudmotor. The pro drive likes a 16 degree and the gator tail likes a 20 degree transom so I need to decide which motor i'm going with before the transom is built. I’m located in SE Wis hunt rivers and marshes. Both good motors and both have pros and cons but if you had to decide today which way/style you would go with, which would it be. This will be a tiller setup btw.

I'm NE IL and prefer the GT. I think the instant reverse is nicer on hard bottom.

Im not in that area, but unless you're in awful mud or veggies, instant reverse is the better option IMO. I respect prodrive, but I don't know that it would be the best fit for all around use.

I run a prodrive, if you don't need full power reverse for heavy mud and thick vegetation, then you will probably like the gtr with instant reverse better. If possible try and find someone in your area and test drive both.

The angle isn't as big of a deal as it's made out to be. Trimming the motor up and down adjusts the angle. Split the difference between the 20 and the 16 and you'd only be off 2 degrees from either. At top and bottom of trim, will that really matter much? Nope.

I agree with russ..
2 degrees of transom angle won’t make a shit
I’ve run the same motor on multiple boats
And I’ve run multiple motors on the same boat.

I would have to go back and double check, but; i am certain my transom angle is somewhere around that 19-20 degree mark....with a Prodrive. I think it gives me more bite in the thick stuff when rooting around...but, probably dampens my load carrying and stepping it out quickly....but, it's also a very heavy rig.

Very nice build. Love the wide open layout.

Just curious if you gave any thought to 1860 vs the 1856 and why you went the way you did. Reason I ask: I’m in nw Illinois and I know guys up here think a little differently about our boats than the southern guys.

I sent my check in on Feb. 9th for a 18x54 just like yours, only difference is I have the dual pod seats. How long did your build take? I am hoping they start on mine soon.
