Post Help on new boat
Well it is finally time to replace the boat I lost in Harvey (the boat was on its last season or two so it wasn't a killer loss) doing rescues. I am looking at the Gator Trax 3 man hide or Marsh Series. Both in the 16 foot length. I am trying to see if anyone in the greater Houston area has either of those boats that I can come look at and put my hands on and maybe go for a spin? If so send me a PM please. Its kinda hard to order a boat that I have never seen in person. thanks in advanced.

The GT Hide is a neat rig --- however not very good for other uses and very heavy...

If you want multi purpose with a mudmotor - go 18 feet minimum with a SD

14 and 16 are great with lighter LT motors - but you need length to get a SD balanced and
working to the maximum potential of a SD

FYI - I have owned a few 16 footers and they just make you want an 18 even more !

The gator hide would make a great flounder boat (if it really floats in 4 in of water like gator trax said) but yes it is very heavy. I am still Interested on putting a backwater 40 on a marsh series (about 100lbs lighter than the boss drive), but gator trax says it will run great with the boss 40xp. They were pushing mud buddy, but I want boss. And I dont see the issue with a 16 foot boat with a sd?

The shorter or narrower that you get, the more water it takes to float.

I want to stay small and light (used to a 14' pos riveted boat. It just got too much damage using it in Harvey to justify fixing). With the blind I am going to use (it might stick up about 38 inches above the water) the marsh series I think will be a good upgrade, and work for me to hunt the coastal marshes. The gator hide you can get much lower for sure, but at a cost of almost 2x the weight.

I understand the displacement principles with length and width. That is why I am asking if someone has one in the area (I saw 1 during the Harvey rescues) so I can verify the specs gator trax stated (floats in 4in of water, the weight and just see it in person)

I thought that about the prop sizes. Kinda thinking the marsh series with a back water LT would be a good combo
