Post 2011 16x54 prodrive boat /36 pro drive motor
I've had this boat for some time I bought it new in 2011. 16x54 pd with 36pd I rarely used it due to a lack of time so recently I got it tuned and decided I was going to use it and fish every week . The boat runs like new I think there still may be paint on the factory prop. I got a gps and took it out for the first time ever . It went a top speed of 28.1 mph but ran constantly at 26ish . the fastest it went was when a person sat towards the front of the boat I think. The boat was loaded with 3 persons 1 being a child big ice chest yeti. full of ice and water , trolling motor ,1 battery in the back ,1 battery in the front 6 gal gas up front . My question do any of you think my boat being 16 foot is a little ass heavy ? Should I move the cranking battery up front ? I typical run the boat with the boat with the motor trimmed all the way up . Thank you for the replys ahead of time.

So you learn to balance a load. Shift weight around to get that happy spot. Using the trim you want half prop on surface, in the tiller you'll feel where its happy. Also that a narrow boat for three guys.

I presume the motor is stock, head work on the motors are needed. You can see light through the valves

What are you hoping to accomplish? If you're unhappy with speeds, mod the engine. If you're unhappy with load carrying, mod the engine. If you're unhappy with both, get a new boat, mod the engine. If you want a stock engine but want the above, get the 40 hp Briggs and swap your powerhead. Prop work and freshing the valses will help some, and moving the battery up front and distributing the load correctly will too. But you won't run 30 with 3 people and hunting gear.

I am quite happy with the speeds , to be honesty I was guessing before the gps test that the boat ran 24 tops and with less of a load . The motor is completely stock only thing different on it is the stock muffler has been gutted due to it breaking apart on the inside. I have no plans on doing any engine work or buying a new powerhead . I am happy with the boat completely .. As far as the boat being to thin for 3 people well hmm its 54" wide maybe a little short for comfort but I feel it is defiantly wide enough. The weight in the boat seems to be a issue balancing and figuring out whats best for the little boat . the reason I got this boat was because I had fiberglass boats and they tend to wear fast, I like the durability of the boat . the engine has been better to me than any outboard I've ever owned . it sat here for years and it wanted to crank right up . my question was being this boat is only 16 foot long would the 36 pd make it ass heavy . I am happy with 26mph but I would be thrilled with 28MPH if all I had to do was move weight around the boat . The prop seems about half way out the water when I'm. running .

Guess I'm not getting what you're asking. If it's too ass heavy, you'd know it. If it's running well enough for you, what's the issue? Does it feel unsafe with how low it sits in the back? Move your battery or don't, but the question you've asked isn't something we can answer without seeing it, but your speeds are fine.

Or
Yes, it's too ass heavy. Get a longer and wider boat. That what you were looking for?

I guess your right that. was a really was not a question that would be possible to answer. . I need to play with the boat and figure out why at one point I was going 28mph and the next time I was going 26mph . it just seems crazy that shifting weight can make this boat 2mph faster . sorry for the mess of a post

Lol, we all do it. Yes, shifting weight can be the difference between getting on plane and not.

Weight distribution is HUGE.

As stated, it can make that much difference and more.

Search weight distribution. A number of threads addressing.

Cleaning up your heads can also help ALOT....

Cleaning up my heads ? Although the boat and motor are from 2011 ,the hours on the boat are under 50 probably around 30 would be my guess . So would this be something to consider on a engine with so few hours ? While the boat sat for years the tach went out and I just had it replaced but the hours didn't transfer, so I'm guessing about the hours
..

Those speeds are good, if you want more, do heads and get your prop worked.

54 is definitely not too narrow for 3 people. I have an 18x48 crawfish skiff and we go 4 with a full hunt load no problem and safely.

Weight distribution makes a huge difference. Moving passengers around in my boat can make a 3-4 mph difference easily. Just move weight and play around with it. The more you go and use it, the better you will learn how that boat runs best and how you have to situate your weight.
