Post 1648 or 1754 with GTR35 or PD36
Hello all,
First post on this forum, I've been looking at the classifieds and reading for a couple months now. I’ve got some questions that I hope aren't answered a thousand times already:

1. Is there going to be a HUGE difference between a 1648 or 1754 Mod v Tracker Grizzly with a 35/36 mud motor? The difference in hull weights is around 50lbs. I know that a mud hull will work better, but I really need the mod v for bigger water, etc.

2. I know this probably a personal preference thing, but if you had to choose between the GTR35 and the PD 36 with reverse, which one would you choose?

Thanks for your help!

Definitely look at a different hull. The longer boats seem to run better. If I were gonna do it over again, I would probably get an 1848 with 3/16th bottom.

We run pd motors and love em. Have not ever run a gt, but most of the people who have them seem to be pretty happy. Drive em both, and choose what works best for you.

I'm in WA and there are no PD dealers within 500 miles and I have no idea where the nearest GT dealers are. It would be almost impossible for me to test drive them. As far as the boats go, all the good boats are made down south and costs a mint to get them up here. Tracker has some dealers nearby with reasonable freight charges, that is the reason why I'm probably going to get one of them. If you have any other ideas, please let me know. Also, I'm not trying to spend 8K for a boat and trailer. I can get the 1754 with trailer for around $4100 and the 1648 with trailer for $3500 and spend my money on a bad azz motor!

If you need the v-bow for big water, take a gander at Excell. They've got a semi v slick hull. As far as the motor goes, it really is personal preference. If you're gonna need the reverse "right now", then it's GT, but if you want one that goes just as fast backwards as it does forward, then PD is the way to go.

Check out all the big boys. There may be a dealer up there somewhere. There's a mb dealer in oregon. They would probably have access to gatortrax and excel boats. They may even have a pd or gt on the lot.

Look for custom boat builders too. Airboat builders. Those will be good guys to talk to. Also you may not have as high of freight charges as you think. Call phowler, gt, gatortrax, etc and see what the bottom line is.

If your runnin any kind of water hazzards, your gonna tear that tracker boat up. If not, you will still be much happier with a boat designed for a mm. Those boats made for outboards just won't perform the same.

Or you could always make a REAL long weekend out of it. Drive all the way down to south louisiana, test drive em all, and drive it back home.

Hope this helps.
