Went on a demo ride today with Bart Baker in a Go-Devil boat and it was more than I expected. The ride made me look at all the water that was previously denied me because of the limits of a shallow running flats boat with an outboard motor. We ran some of the drainages in the north end of St. Charles Bay and saw more redfish and waterfoul that I thought was possible. We also saw ten whooping cranes, man are they big. I really liked the ride of Barts boat but I think I want a wider boat, his is 38" and seems able to go anywhere, we went through some drains that were less than three feet wide. I did not see any need for a reverse or netural but I'm sure that there is a learning curve until you are as competent as Bart is. I would like to try some other brands but I cannot imagine that they would be decidedly better than the Go-Devil when maintenance and dependability are considered. Hell, even I can work on the engine. I don't know what the top speed was because we didn't turn the GPS on but I would guess that we were going across the bay at about 27.428 mph. It was a cold and windy day but very comfortable once we got into the swamps and off the bay. I will have a mud motor boat by next early teal season. |

I love my go devil. I cant say anything about the other boats, as i have not been in any of them but I'm sure they all are very good and serve the purpose of what you want them to do, from what Ive read on this forum. My buddy has a mud muddy and he loves his motor, and probably wouldn't trade it for anything. So its just a matter of what you need it for and where your taking it. And yes go devil is very low maintenance, but I'm sure the other brands are too. |

It is like finding a whole new world - that you had been just riding past in an outboard... Bart is a great guy to learn from - and to buy a rig from too.... |

Welcome to the addiction... You wallet will be lighter.... Try as many of the boats and motors out as you can. They all have their pros and cons, and mostly comes down to personal preference and usage. It is easy to make a mistake and they are expensive mistakes if you aren't careful Figure out how much you want to spend as that may help your decision on what to buy... And think about how you will use the boat and where-that will help you figure out what boat and also motor makes the most sense. Good luck and keep us posted.... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good to hear your hooked. Maybe one day we can get GDSD out to one of the mud run events and see what it can really do. If you do a lot of fishing look into those motors with reverse. I love it at the launch, picking up decoys from boat etc. Also a wider boat will provide you with a more stable platform. |

Myself, Westendangler or TEXASHOCKWAVE could give you a demo in a GTR. We are all around the Houston area. Good place would be to go to the mudrun on March 20th to try different brands. |

Welcome to the addiction. Bart is a good person. I have owned several brands of mud motors from longtails to surface drives. I will leave the brand names out because I aint got a dog fighting in the Mud motor brand wars. I like Go- Devil. It may not be the last one I buy but it will be the last one I buy for a while. It works for me and gets me to and fro. I aint a bells and whistles type of operator. I want to start it, get there and get back. I have never in all my years on the tiller needed reverse and won't need it tomorrow. Some like it some don't, I don't need it. My boat aint the fastest and it can and will get stuck on occassion. Well I get it unstuck and go on about my business. So far as representing at Caddo. I will be there but I aint rpresenting anything or anybody other than the drunk fat guy, me. I got a motor on an aluminum hull. You want to run threw something then lets get it on. If I get stuck then come help me. If you get stuck then I will be there to help you as well, or we are going to both be buried in the ass deep mud right next to each other. I just want to go and have a good time and meet some of the shit talkers on here. Chillin, Grillin, Muddin and bulchittin. Now so far as Bart Baker. He is a good person that talks straight up. When I bought my motor he asked specifically we not talk about other brands because that is not his style. If I had a comparison question then he would answer it. He just asked we not turn the demo into a mud motor brand bashing session. I got a lot of respect for that. I spoke with some other dealers of other brands and that was no the case. Immediately they went into bashing the other mud motor brands. I guess I am too old to listen to some of that bullshit because they all got something good about them. They all got something bad about them. None of them can do it all. You got to settle on what your looking for. To do that you have to aask yourself first and then get educated by driving a lot of different boats. Your welcome to drive mine. I will be at the Wallisville locks March 13 and I am trying to get cleared for the March 20 SETX run. Either one you can run my boat. I will be fishing down in Port O'Conner hear int he near, your welsome to run it then. I am not running a Go Devil hull. I have a Gator Trax that had a tunnel. I welded that up long ago. That was the best modification I have done to the boat, bar none. Tunnels do not belong on a mud rig. PM me if your going to make any of the above runs. |
