Post Whats the difference?
What is the difference in speed and load carrying capability between a 10x5, 10x6, 10x7, and 10x8 prop? I am looking for a prop for my MB 35hp longtail. Motor is on a 1648 with the average load of 3 people and normal hunting gear. Not much soft mud but shallow hard bottom and lots of vegetation. Thanks for any help.

first # is the diameter and the second # is the pitch. The higher the pitch the faster it will go, the lower the pitch the more bottom end it will have. There are a couple other factors, but these are the basics. You want to match the rpm's to the prop to achieve the best speed/load carring ability.

forgot to add that every 1" change in pitch equates to approx 200 rpm's

So 1" up in pitch equates to a 200 rpm loss?

I know this is a somewhat old thread but Im looking to get a new prop fairly soon and Im still unsure which prop is right for my application.

What would you consider a modest load?

I finally got the prop off and found out it was originally a 10x5. With that worn 10x5 I was running 24mph empty by myself. With 2 hunters I am running 22mph but at 4250 rpm. With 3 people and hunting gear Im still bumping 19 mph and turning 4000-4100rpm.

I think im leaning towards the 10x6 but Im not completely sold on it. Any more advise or experiences? I think I have read every 35hp prop thread I could find, twice.

I just hate to spend that kind of money on a prop that I wont be happy with.

Thanks again.
