But wear is a major factor in props. Anyone tried cericoating one? That stuff is supposed to be indestructible. That should keep sand from wearing down the prop.... Anyone tried it?

I don't think it'd stand a chance. There's not much that sand won't destroy

X2 it may give you 30 extra seconds of life on the prop on a sand bar. Ive seen guns with cerakote that are all scratched up

Never had one done but all the gun cats talk about how hard/strong that stuff is. Did not know if it was that durable or not. Sand is some bad shit for sure

Isnt that stuff thats in some tig electrodes. Im sure its tough but my grinder still sharpens the tips. I agree with ^^. It wont last long in sand/mud

There are things that can be done, but with side effects. If the prop is hardened by heat treating process, yes it will be resistant to wear, but also brittle. If you run lots of sandy bottoms, I think I would rather wear, than a broken off blade.

Save your money, sand is the devil on props. That's why I go thru at least 1 prop per year. There's nothing I can do about it. The river systems I run are sand. But look at it this way. It's a few hundred dollars a year for this much fun.......it's worth it imo.

Have Chris Corville or another prop place repair your props. It's just a bit over half price and a good prop man can get you EXACTLY want you want out of a prop with extra cupping etc. Run it like you stole it and don't over think it. ;)

You can take a side grinder to a barrel that has been cerakoted and fuck it up in a heartbeat. That stuff is tough for heat and chemicals but not abrasion proof, same thing will happen to the prop. It's not like it's getting "scratched" when it's in the sand, consider the rpm's and the fact it's literally like taking it to the grinder! 25 seconds in the right spot is all it takes. haha

However, a salt nitrate bath, a.k.a Melonite might be worth looking in to...

P.S. No idea is a stupid idea, it shows you are thinking and could lead to greater things.

Coat the prop with sand or diamonds.

I figured there was nothing to prevent wear if you hog down in a sand bar. I was hoping thinking you might could counter act some incidental sand encounters.

One thing I always go by on a Prodrive, since it has a fixed handle, if I can't pull up on the handle and force the skeg down into whatever was on the bottom, either stop or prepare to buy a new prop.
