 PD LU generation info
Thinking about switching to a PD and I know that there are some differences as far as performance goes from reading what y'all post. Gen 3 is the slow one is all I know so is there any issues with the 2? A friend has a 2 for sale and willing to let me test but don't want to waste my time if it's slower than the 4

As far as I know, the Gen 2 ran better on the top end than the 3 but had issues in the thick stuff with a stock motor because the hearing was fairly tall. From all accounts the Gen 4 is the best of both. There are plenty here that have on or the other or both, I'm sure they'll be along shortly.

If your seriously considering a pro drive I would base your decision off more than just the speed difference between the generations. Other things to consider with the newer models are splined shaft prop, larger clutch, trim and auto reverse on the same pump....oh and maybe that efi thing I been hearing about.

Only thing that is going to make the 4 faster than the 2 is the Briggs efi engine.
It's almost the exact same gear ratio.

 Re: PD LU generation info
I still have the lower with the oil filled shaft. No issues and yes it is slightly faster on top over the same grease filled ratio, but not much. Only issue was seals and that was once. never had an issue in thick vegetation or stepping up a load either. But I do have a stage 2. Oh and I also spin a 14p prop with that lower about 5000 rpms.

I have a stock gen 2 on a 17x54 and I run side by side with gen 4 tdx boats with EFI. Mine is stock and so are they. I would prefer the hex shaft over the gen 2.
