I would like to know the same info.

Just installed my heads today and can easily hit rev limiter.

What options do we have.

I bought a Hopkins 12x14 cleaver. The prop is very smooth and has almost 0 vibration. Jumps up on plane and increased speed about 1mph while reducing RPMs by about 200-250. Lift the azz end and overall seems to run well. Havent run it in mud but it did seem the wrap up thick veg some where the PD doesnt. I still need to do some more running before I know for sure but the reduced rpms may play a part in that. I like it so far and if nothing else it will be a great fishing prop. Did I mention no vibration. Maybe there is something to this balancing thing.............

I sent him a 12x14 to be re worked and he said no problem when he got it. I got it back and it ran a whopping 22 mph at 4300 rpm...haven't contacted him about it yet.

It takes a lot of power to turn his 14 Cleaver!RC was running a 14 and his motor had all the goodies in it.It all depends on the cup and tip curl also,Like others said,Give Hopkins a call and get started!Good Luck

Post Re: PD Prop
well hell, I ordered the 14 today. Maybe I should call him back and get the 13. He said that if I put a cam in my motor like im kinda planning on, the 13 prob wouldnt be enough. So we decided to go with the 14 with my current mods and if its not enough, put a cam in it and that should be enough. What do you guys think?

Like I said,It depends on how much cup he puts in them! The ones that I was running had different amount of cup.Try the one he is sending you and call him with results! You might have to send it back a couple times but you will be right when it is done ;)

Post Re: PD Prop
FYI....

There is a theory out that a prop can be a deciding factor in cracking your block due to keeping your motor at peak torque at all times. We all know the blocks are weaker than what we need for heavy mods. So if the motor is a 100% torque with lots of load (caused by prop) than its plausible.

I had a 12x14 light tip curl on a stage 1 and it ran 33 with no problems. I had a 12x14 heavy tip curl and it would not turn over 3800 and the block split right down the middle. I passed the prop on to the next guy (way before anyone had thought the prop could be the problem) and I don’t know what happed to his motor but it’s not running any longer. Adam what happened to your motor.

If you cannot turn the prop over 4100 RPM get some tip curl taking out of it.

Don’t know who posted the theory first, but I have thought about it for a long time now. It might have been Mike, but I’m not giving him credit for crap    LMAO. If anyone else has researched/thought about the props being a potion of the problem but that what I’m thinking.

Mike has posted many times. If you prop your motor so much to lower rpm's while still keeping the motor at Full throttle, all you are doin is making the engine work harder. Lessen the pitch or cup to make your engine run efficient so you dont have to have that sucker lugging and working hard just to spin a prop. Can you imagine too much prop and a heavy load? that motor will just come apart.. So there is the thing called a throttle.... use your had to control the speed of the engine. Lugging is not the bestr way to control RPM's

Post Re: PD Prop
After grinding that 12x14 heavy tip some today I have concluded it is too much for my setup when in the thick stuff. Works great for open water and I run alot of that fishing so I think I'll keep it like it is but will go back to the PD prop for the grinding time. May take some tip off of it. Just can't spin it up right when in the thick veg and mud. Once it gets the rpms up its a hoss but getting it up there consistantly will take more than heads, carb and exhaust. And its does seem to be putting the motor in more of a bind trying to keep them up there with some resistance from veggies so that cant be good for the long haul.

I got a 12x13 from Hopkins wif heavy curl and cup. Heads, carb, and exhaust. A get my best speed at 4200. I can turn it to the limiter, but lose speed as I trim it more. My prop likes to run deeper than the PD prop. No way I could turn a 12x14 built like this one.

Well I ran the new prop. Im not getting all the RPMs I need. I just moved my Tach and had to extend the wire, Im not positive its reading exactly right. it seems to be updating slower than before. But If its reading correctly, Im getting around 3400 RPMs. I am still running 28 with two people. Hopefully my EVT cam will be in soon. If Im actually turning 3400 now, and I get 4200 with the upcoming mods, its gonna fly!
