Ordered a new belt and prop from Gator-Tail this AM.

Those guys are very nice and prompt to return calls and emails

So here's what's been happening.

Heard a grinding noise at take off and it progressed to a noise like ice in a blender.

Checked belt and it is super loose. Measured deflection and it's 3/4" on both sides. It's supposes to be 1/4".

GT said it's time for new belt! Hopefully gears are ok from the slipping.

Also been noticing a ton of vibration. Backed out muffler support bolts.

Checked prop length and it's 10" instead of 12"

Called gator tail- time for new prop!

Excited to get new parts on- wife however is not so excited about having to buy parts lol

Replacing belt sounds easy, we shall see

2010 didn't come wif a lifetime belt warranty? That was just last year. R is the belt warranty not transferrable?

All engines purchased on 3-1-10 and after come with a lifetime belt warranty.

Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

Does the new belt he purchased come with a lifetime warranty? Or is it a different belt-

Craig, thanks for the clarification. I was also under the impression it was all 2010 year models. Now, is the warranty transferrable if the motor is sold? It really has no effect on me personally, but I'm sure there's someone that it would effect.

make sure you get a piece of plastin banding material. wrap it around the belt at the bottom leave it hang out the belt housing that way you have something to pull the belt over the gear. will save you alot of headache

Took apart the lower unit and sent pictures off to gator tail- got a call within 10 minutes

Turns out the lower pulley's teeth are
worn and they had already boxed up a new one to send me today, compliments of GT.

Very happy with the customer support at Gator-Tail

Allways pays off when the customer is first in the sellers eyes. Myself have never had a problem, always gotten the parts the week i made the phone call, haven't missed a hunting weekend yet. Good job for the GT boys/girls

Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

got new bottom gear today- went ahead and installed it-

Having trouble aligning the belt. Seems to want to fall off the top gear. Going to try to move the shims around tomorrow and see how that works

Post subject:  New belt & prop @ 100 hours

Anyone have an idea why the belt would want to come off top gear?

Maybe too tight?

Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

Shimmed too high in front, too low in rear, causing belt to walk off?

Author:  Sublime250 [ Sun Nov 20, 2011 4:38 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

shimmed it up on the back side- the belt wants to hang off about 25%

Need to call gator-tail and see if this is correct

Definitely NOT right!!!! Makes me wonder if the pulleys are inline correctly.

Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

Back of the motor needs to be shimmed a little bit to make the belt ride alittle more on the pulley, just had this same problem

Author:  Sublime250 [ Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:02 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

I took a single set of shims from the stern side and placed
A set of shims and a set of washer on the bow side- should I have added shims to the stern side of
the motor?

Author:  Team Camo [ Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:12 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

If you shim the front (bow) of the motor more than the rear (stern), then the belt is going to walk off because it would be pulling in that direction. Think of it like a bowl of water, if you tilt it up too much on one side, the water will run out of the other side.

Post subject:  Re: New belt & prop @ 100 hours

Both the back bolts need to be shimmed equally, if not motor will sit cock-eyed
