 PD lower knuckle
Is there a vent on the lower knuckle gearbox? I change oil this spring and checked it after fishing today and when i pulled the plug gearbox had pressure in it and i lost quite a bit of oil and I know i didn't over fill it when i change it.

 Re: PD lower knuckle
no one knows if theres a vent for the gearbox that goes up through the tower? I been dearching old threads for the past 3 hrs looking for this answer. Thought i've seen pics before where people have had gear oil come out up by the clutch.

 Re: PD lower knuckle
It's best not to have a vent and chances are yours does not, they went to no vent. I'd say it would be fine to have a little positive pressure, will help keep water out. Was it cold when you changed it and then hot now? Thermal expansion? You will be fine as long as there's no water in the oil.

 Re: PD lower knuckle
Yes it was cold I did it late this winter and I'm from iowa so that probably explains it. I noticed knuckle seemed hot too before I drained some of the oil out probally hot because I ran it to full?
