Post BD 4500 prop
Hey guys need some help figuring something out? I'm impatient and don't feel like waiting til Monday to make a few phone calls. I bought a BD 4500 earlierthis year from MB and had it put on to replace my 7000. My question is can I run the hammer prop? I keep reading I need to be able to turn 4400rpms with it and would like the added load push. I have the Dyno sheet from MB when they ran it and it's not very clear but above 4280rpm and under 5000rpm basically inbetween I did the math and roughly each measure is 79ish rpms and would put my max rpms just under the 4700 mark according to MB dyno. I am assuming my 4500 has a 4700 rev limiters or have I read too many diluted forums? Any help is appreciated

How many rpms do you turn in the water trimmed to best seat of the pants speed?

And if they're high rev coils, your cdi coils are 4700 or 4750, I don't remember which it is exactly.

Yup I knew that question was going to be asked! And my answer/excuse is ive only been out a handful of times since the swap and have been more concerned with getting gators in the boat so I will have to get back to you with that answer. Highest I've seen not wide open is 41ish but like I said I was more concerned with running down a gator and not realizing my throttle/rpms

Without that info, turning a hammer or not isn't an answer we can give you. What are your upper and lower gears?

You should be able to pull a Hammer, I've been running one the last three years on my 2013 BD MB. It has 38/46 gears and I can run it up to 4550 and can probably run it up to 4700, just not comfortable staying in it for any length of time. Motor Has 200 hrs on it.

I will have to run it and get a better grasp on numbers! According to MB website the gear size is 38/46. The motor I received from MB was a test motor with 10 hours on it so it came with whatever the BD4500 has and I added a SS BPS Q exhaust. I did the math on my DYNO sheet from MB and according to their sheet the RPM's maxed at 4700+/-50. Like I said the chart goes up to a max of 5000 and the next hash below it was 4286 so I determined the hash marks in-between those two numbers represented roughly 80rpms and came up with 4700ish. I know I should have a better idea of what I have hung on the back of my rig and will find out more on Monday after I call MB and the shop that put it all together. Like I said I just wanted to know rough idea if it was feasible or not for other 4500 owners. As of right now the BB prop runs great but am always looking for more performance within reason and prop changes are probably the easiest bolt on mod to be done without modding the internals more. Thanks for those who have responded I will do more homework tomorrow and post what ive got.

Here is a chart that I am referencing my gears off of. I believe its older but an idea of the differences in motors since they are confusing to me.
