Post Best load carrying prop. not speed
Hi im new to the short tail game and just got a big new 1954 prodigy with 24" sides. I have a stock 37efi GTRXD. Im looking for opinions on what the best load carrying prop for my setup is. I dont need speed just want to get a load up on plain. if i get 20mph ill be happy as a clam. i currently just have the stock 3 blade GTR prop and have a bigblade on the way. Any help for the new guy? whats a worked prop?

The gatortail fat blade is a great prop, but my boy had trouble turning it in his stock 37 over 25 mph. It's great for load carrying though bro. I have one and unworked, i hold 30 with or without a load. Call baggy in Houma about a worked prop

A worked prop is one that has had its pitch, cup, or rake, or any combination of the above, adjusted. Pitch affects speed, cup affects the ability of the prop to hold mud or water and shove the boat (load carrying), and rake affects the attitude of the boat in the water, and can affect the other 2 adjustments. There's more to it than that, but that gives you a ballpark explanation of what each adjustment primarily affects.

The less pitch the better - a 10 pitch will carry load better than an 11 or 12 pitch...

Think gearing - the lower the gearing the more bottom end power and load carry - most
here want speed and use bigger diameter props with more pitch and modify the stock
motor to go faster solo or with lighter loads so they can say their synthetic oil and gator
glide got them 33mph...

Just Kidding !

Baggy is 985-868-0103.

For me and my boat "crawfish skiff", my 12 pitch merc carries a much better load than when it was 11 pitch, like night and day. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the hull I'm running my motor on, but in my application, the props with more pitch have carried a load a lot better than ones with less.

I don’t doubt that, but it sounds back asswards to what science would say.

Always wondered why some one hasn't came up with a 4bld MM prop. Beings the prop is running half out of the water. When propping my 30" performance hull my out drive builder recommended a 4bld 15 1/2"Dia. 26 pitch prop. He said with the extra blades there was always two in the water when trimmed for best speed. Would think if MM had the power to pull a 4bld it would work the same way.??

Someone has, but I'm guessing it didn't work out too well because it was being worked a couple years ago and I haven't heard anything else about it.

Reason a four blade doesn’t work is the same reason a 2 blade is better in the mud than a 3 blade...because the only time you have half a prop in the water is on a step. To get it on a step, you have to be able to turn both (or all 3 or 4) flukes fully submerged.

This is also why the 3 blades are smaller diameter than the 2 blades....unless you’re running a PD Gen III LU with 2:1 gear ratio...

But, ultimately, the vast majority of people want speed. You will be there, too....just give it time.

Thanks for all the info so far guys! I talked to baggy and there’s a few things were going to try with props but he asked what I am supposed to be running for rpms with my stock 37efi XD and I said I have no clue. I run right around 4000 with 3 guys at 20 mph. Anyone know what I should be turning for rpms with a stock motor?

My buddy has a stock 37. He says his optimal rpms is around 4250-4400. Might have to get a little taken out of it. Whatever baggy says, is what will be the best. The dude is a wizard with props man
