Re: laccasine
I thought about this also, figured it would be plenty of veggies and they would mind the canals being a little clearer haha

Re: laccasine
never ran a mudmotor in there but used to fish out there a little bit. i loved running the trail from the north launch down to the duck pen area. it would have been a shorter boat ride to put in at new launch but i always enjoyed running those trails

Re: laccasine
it can be, that place could be some of the best duck hunting in that part of the state if it wasn't overrun with morons. I quit hunting out there about 4 years ago but before that I hunted it everyday it was open when I was in college and did well on the mallards. That was when it was open wed-sunday. Now as soon as you find a good killing hole someone hears you shooting, sees birds falling and that is how they scout.

Re: laccasine
I don't think there is any reason to run a mud motor in Lacassine. In the pool, I think you are only allowed to use a trolling motor outside the boat lanes. In the hunting areas outside the pool, you could drive an offshore V-hull boat to pretty much anywhere but of course if you want to hunt you have to get out and walk the marsh. The regulations say that you cannot run any motor in the marshes (only in the bayous, lakes, and boat lanes which are all deep) and there is no access into the marshes other than getting out and walking. I see people using bay boats and other v-hulls pretty often there (carrying pirogues with them). I think the bigger the better at Lacassine because you have a pretty good run in open water and then if you park to hunt off the Intracoastal, you have a very good chance of your boat getting sunk by passing barges, crew boats, small oil tankers, etc. This happened to one of my buddies and my experience was only slightly better. I came back once to find my boat sitting wedged between a stump and dry land a few feet off the water where a tugboat washed it up. That boat is HEAVY and did not want to move off that stump. If I didn't have some friends in another boat I would have been screwed. If you hunt off the pipeline canal you don't have to worry about getting sunk, you just have to get there early enough because the hunting portion of Lacassine is pretty small so the spots get taken quickly and the walk/swim through the marsh is brutal so you will need time to walk/swim/crawl pulling all your gear. Some areas are not too bad, but others are bottomless. There are some where I have swam/crawled holding my gun underwater horizontally using it as sort of a weight distributor because there was literally no other way for me to get out of it. I workout 6 days a week, so I am in good shape and there are some ponds I will not even try to get to. Others are not that bad, you just need to scout before you try to hunt there. I have had both great and terrible(not firing a shot) hunts there. Good luck

Re: laccasine
One more thing for you to watch out for... If you launch at Gary's, whatever you do, don't backup your trailer past the poles which are only like 3 feet out or something super short like that. You usually have to push your boat off the trailer because it won't be floating. Unless they fixed it since last season, the ramp is metal grating and the last section broke off. People have ripped the axle off their trailer trying to pull out once they went off the edge. A regular trailer is ok if you are careful but a taller than normal trailer or one that has the tires further back than normal won't work. Yes, if you have gator glide or steelflex you can get the boat off the trailer but getting it back on the trailer when the bunks are completely out of the water is another story.

Re: laccasine
One of my boats launches fine there and the other does not because it has bigger wheels and the axle is mounted further back so the bunks don't even touch water. With a tandem axle trailer like a bay boat trailer you could probably hang the back wheels off the ramp and still be ok though I have seen some that were not, it just depends on the trailer.
