Post Copperhead set-up
I just acquired a old monarch 1442 rivited boat. I believe it weighs no more than 200#. Bottom seems straight as far as dents go. I want to put a 12hp copperhead on it. I am sure from reviews that with 2 people, dog, dekes, and gear I'll be running close to 18-20mph(???). My main question is, has anyone thought or tried putting a cmc tilt/trim jackplate with one of these motors. Seems to me it would be easier to trim it down to dig and then trim it up to where the prop runs best. I hunt in setx sabine pass area where there are no real stumps, just soft tidal mud. I need a motor like this due to new restrictions at the refuge. Any help would be great.

With all that weight, I don't know who told you you will get 18-20, I'd say closer to 17mph. Now you by yourself, then you may get 24mph.
Most high mph numbers are lighter, purpose built hulls for these small motors. That monarch is not designed for these small mudmotors.
Just don't want you to get all upset when you are not getting the speeds you read.

17 is fine...lol...just need it to work for maybe this coming season tops until I can get a different boat. I want one of the Phowler boats but dont know if budget will allow me to get an entire rig at one time. Figuired since this boat weighs about what the phowler sneak boats weigh it would get me by for now...Thanks

I appreciate it. Hoping you would reply seeing all the testing you've been doing with these motors. I figuired it would run better than the 36"bottom being wider. Also, I am new to mud motors so I'll ask this too. We are currently running a weldbilt 1848 with 4'front deck, back bench seat, and aftermarket 1/8" alum. floor. Power: '01 40merc tiller...runs round 33-34 gps with just me, fuel, safety gear. base hull weighs 345#...plus floor, gear, etc...round 425# question: is this hull to heavy for a 23hp sd? if so would it perform with the 9"refuge prop for 1 day a week? One place I hunt has no restrictions...other is refuge <25hp and no bigger than 9" prop for air-cooled motors. I think its cheaper to get buy copperhead and just run 2 boats vs. buying 23hp + prop + mods to push bigger boat. Its a never ending battle...lol

Thanks. Talked to my father and I think he has decided to keep the 1848 the way it is for fishing purposes this spring and summer. Then once it gets closer we wil start seriously looking at a boat for only duck hunting. I got him on here and showed him the new phowler sneak boats w/12hp copperhead. I think he really wants one. With him pushing late 50's it would be easy to pull up and hunt right out of one of those. He really likes the 1636 w/12hp. Now I just need a place to go look at them in either se texas or sw louisiana. Do you know of any dealers down this way?

I know when I was stationed at Gulfport,MS it took bout 5hrs to where I live now in setx. So I'm guessing 3.5hrs to get to Covington. When I get my dad's nerve up I'll let ya know or call Gil to make sure he has some at his location. SETXPerfomance needs to sign a contract to carry ya'lls products. He's 10mins from the house...lol.

that motor will not be a legal motor on those refuges. the prop is above the 9" rule.

There are ways to get around that. Get a 9" prop with more pitch and it should works just about the same.
