Post sliding
well i'm tired of sliding in turns with my slick bottom. we have a couple trails on our lease that are narrow and have a lot of sharp turns.my question is is there anything i can do to help in the turns but not affect the performance in the mud.i also want to put some gator glide on it but i haven't done it yet do to the sliding.

Gator Glide won't make it slide any more than normal unless you're in mud or on grass and logs. The only thing that's gonna help with the sliding in this context is a round chine. Other than that, tiller time! ( aka Learn how to drive you rig.)

Theres your problem. Sell and get a tapered or round chine.. Or just learn how to drive that one.. Ive ran the exact same types of ditches your speaking of in grand chanier and pecan island with a square chine, and ended up on land more than a few times at first.. I can now go full throttle and not miss a beat. Learn your boat.

x2 on some stick time. I've also seen some people weld square tubing to help the boat hook up but I think that's overkill.

In the off season flip the boat over and have a piece of 1.5" angle welded right down the center

Sliding is what a square chine flat bottom does.
u gotta slow down a lil before turning.
Common sense is just as important as stick time.
Whoever turns their square chined flat bottom without sliding,
Simply aint got much power pushing it.

what size boat and motor? tiller time is the key.....you will learn to work throttle and "feel" the boat grab and then back wot.....sliding is a fact of life for a square flat and minimizing it is the key.....but having said that, i still slide out and hit the bank on occassion. I dont think i will have near the trouble with sliding by dropping down to a 40" bottom, feather the prop a little and lean into turn and it should grab just fine......

Turn before you get there, let the nose slide across the bank in the corner, then wot. LOL or just slow down, my 54 is like driving a skim board, theres no leaning gonna help it, let off the gas enough to feel it bite then get back in it. Tiller time, tiller time, tiller time...

trimming down wont do shit if you dont work the throttle.....use the throttle to initiate the turn and then let off and let it grab at the turn and then wot throttle out....... your gonna have to learn your rig and know how far it takes to grab. If its real shallow it wont grab and your gonna need to know where those spots are.

I don't care what you got, if you are in mud you are sliding, the only thing that i have seen turn in the mud is ribbed bottom boats. Now in deeper water you have some hull designs that will slice through the water making turning a breeze (extreme, reaction chine, etc.), then you have the square chine boats that with a little practice you can make them turn very well in deep water. IN mud you can forget it, you ain't cutting corners in mud.
