1742 skiff, 2010 27 Kohler MB Li
Hey guys, kinda new here. I've got a 1742 skiff, 2010 27 Kohler MB Lite. With me(290 a red top optima in the back a 24 series deep cycle in the nose an 6 gal of gas 3/4 way up boat) I can run 24.4 mph@ 3980-4010 rpm, take the front battery out and I get 27.6 @ 3950-4050with alot of porposing and that's trimmed all the way down. The wind was blown 10-20 and it was in deep water. Thinkn bout changing the intake and puttin the BPS exaust on but I haven't heard one with it yet. Anybody got any ideas or I close on my setup? Thanks

Re: My boat
You pick up 3 mph by just taking 1 battery out?
That seems like an awful lot for just removing what 25 lbs?

Re: My boat
The battery in the front not an optima, but a 24 series deep cycle trolling mtr bat, I don't know the weight diff but it's noticable holding the two. I also had a trolling mtr on it that I forgot to mention. Without the battery in front it's a pretty wild ride die to the porposing.

Re: My boat
No I don't, I'm tryin to find some right now. What do they really do? I understand they're goin to change the angle of my motor, but can't I do that with the trim?

Re: My boat
The trim tabs will help with the porpoising.

Re: My boat
trim tabs dont help the angle of the motor. wedges do that. Trim tabs are tabs along the bottom of your boat that stick out about 1.5-2". they help to push the nose of your boat down. I'll try to find a pic

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5445&p=56980&hilit=trim+tabs#p56980look at the second or third pic. the tabs on the outside corners of the bottom are the trim tabs.

Re: My boat
Trim tabs help with take off and also with porpoising. The problem is that they also make it hard to impossible to push the boat backwards in the nasty stuff. Move the fuel tank and battery to the front of the boat and see how it does. That's a good lil motor for that size boat, as long as it's just you and one other guy. Before spendin a bunch of $$$ on mods, disconnect the govenor and run it. Should gain about 2-3 mph, and if you don't like it, you're not out any $$$$.
