Bro first off I sorry that this has happened!! One thing you need to know about what they want to do to your boat. If it broke the first time it will be even more weaker the 2nd time. Cutting the transom off and welding a new one will only weaken the metal more!! The weld is the strongest part of the boat the area around the weld which is called the heat affected zone is the weakest, that is were it will break!! I been in the fabricating and welding business all my working life 20+ years !! I tend to know a little about it!! Just a bad deal and their fix ain't gonna do nothing but prolong your problems!! Yea if it works for a year and then breaks what then!! That is what they are trying to do! If it breaks in a year your stuck with it best thing to do is get a new boat or do away with them all together!!

They're prolly not going to just give you your money back. I would demand a new boat, exactly the same as your current one. Then do with it as you please.

So lemme get this straight, I'm having a hard time understanding.... You bought an excel/mb and the transom angle was so f'ed up that the boat wouldn't get on plane? They sent you a shim to correct it and still didn't fix the problem?

I'm having a hard time understanding how Excel could mess the transom angle up that bad.....

i called excel tuesday and asked what day this week they were picking up my boat the answer was will not be this week we are running behind

A co worker went look at some boats at Southern Outdoors in Thibodaux. They sell Excel and G3. He was asking questions about the boats. Asked which was the better boat, and they told him the G3 was better quality than the Excel. Glad that they were honest with him.

excel had a dealer going to the plant from sc stop and pick up my boat today .now we wait and see

Should have given him a link to this thread....then told him, "I expect you to sell that boat to a scrap metal yard and bring me back a new one."

I would hope they would correct the problem or replace the boat. In all our years of building Phowlers we have only replaced one hull and it was our issue in how the hull was made by one of our contractors (we no longer use any contractors, everything is done in-house). To our knowledge we have never had a transom crack or transom support crack. We repair alot of transoms on other mudboats for guys and we still can't figure out why some of these companies keep building them that way knowing they have issues.

Keep pushing them to get it right.

did they ever fix this thing or replace it? sounds like a bunch of b.s. if you ask me. get it back and sell it for a real mud hull.

got a buddy whos boat ( less than a year old) was with them for about 3 months due to the single brace from the transom to the motor plate (HD model) cracking and then the transom cracked about 4-5in long. they told him they had problems with the single brace so there just gonna cut off the rear section and put the new design on. the first month was we havent gotten to it yet then all of a sudden it was done then 2 of those months were the back n forth were waiting on a shipment to your area to bring it back. IMO its there F up you shouldnt have to wait around for them to fix something they didnt build right from the start. anyway its supposedly gonna be in tom to pick up n i may be taking a ride with him to pick it up cant wait to see what they did..

i got the same boat. .125 no issues yet and i beat the crap out of it. rocks stumps 3"ice. ive ran through two tracker grizzly and one wareagle before i upgraded hulls. i needed a new capacity placker for the excel and they overnighted it to me the next day. sorry to hear they are dicken you around.

i think as long as you have the .125 you shouldn't have issues like you would with the .100.

excel sent my boat back on wednesday but when they took the motor off they did not plug the gas line .The dealer was going to install my motor but when the dealer went to take it off the truck he noticed that gas leaked on the floor and peeled the paint and liner up so the boat had to go back to excel this will be the 3rd trip since march.man this is getting old .The place it broke would not have mattered if it was 200 guage poor bracing design.If you notice the new ones have 2 braces.

The plant manager told me we messed up .

i will say i love the boat it runs great and is the best aluminum boat i have ever had built like a tank.The bracing was just a bad design . I really believe excel is selling a lot of boats and motors and needs more staff.

yeah i thought the .125 came in 5086 usually. i think most people that get .125 are smart enough to get it in the higher quality. ah who knows it is what it is.

I don't know why they didn't just put 2 braces on the first time you brought it back. I had Gatortail add 2 knee braces to my boat a couple years after I bought it. It's a proven design that's easy, works well and won't get in the way of any motor you put on it like a single brace does. I know Godevil has had them on their boats for a long time & I've seen other builders do the same. Maybe it's a pride thing or something so that they can prove their design will work.

I hope you get it all worked out. But just be prepared for things to break on these motors occasionally, no matter what brand it is (like the case gasket). It's just goes with ownership of a mudmotor because of what we put these motors through. Although you probably already know that since I get the impression that your issue is less about things breaking and more about how the companies handle these problems when they do occur.

dude, how are you keeping your cool?!? Theres no way I would have allowed a 3rd go round with this bs...force them to deliver a new boat as previously designed and move on!!! Season is approaching and its time to start working on things, you need a boat and they need to salvage some type of reputation (if they have any supporters left) its time for the full court press if necessary!

All this demanding money and new boats is easy said. They have the mans money so they got him by the balls. It sucks but, its the nature of the beast . Best thisng we can do is not support excel, Not tell him how to handle himself. Just sayin.....

I feel ya man. Going thru the same BS right now myself. Check out my forum post on mudbuddys forum titled "WTF Mudbuddy" that's only half the story. Im Headin to bed now but I'll fill ya all in in the morning. But right now in a nutshell I too have been waiting on my boat and motor to be fixed since may 29 for what they told me would be two weeks at the most. A threat of a lay suit and lawyers have already been called.

the post is still there as far as i know, was last time i checked. i printed it all out the other day to take to court if i needed to.

but to my story. had to do a valve job on the brand new engine the first day i took it out. went thru a quart of oil every trip. had deadbird look at it for me and took pictures and said it looks to be leaking oil into the cylinders. micah said he would get the dealer to remove the power head and send it to utah and he would have a new power head mail out the day he got it. i would be back in the boat in two weeks. that was may 29. micah never got the original motor picked up for two weeks. i told him i had to have the boat for a fishing vacation i had planed for the week of july 8th. June 25 micah called and said he just got the motor, which is wierd since i have been talking to a guy named Al somewhere in the carolinas that has my motor in his shop. he was someone mudbuddy contracts out to build these motors. micah also told me again that he was going to have a new powerhead shipped out that week. also told that to my dealer. then i hear nothing. i have to rent a boat to go to the coast fishing vacation for the entire family for $150 a day plus tax. its an outboard and at port oconner texas all the bay is is less than 3 feet. so i have VERY limited fishing opertunities. i finally get a call during my vacation that my motor made it back to the dealer. i said MY motor, not a new one. all Al did was change one head gasket. didnt even replace the fouled out spark plugs. dealer put it on and sounded like what he described it to me that the push rod came out again and valves were chattering.

i got back into town and found out that my dealer decided to fix it himself. he tore thru it and got a parts list together and the day the parts came he also received a 7000 power head with my name on it. i have a 45mag. micah said ya its mine then said it was surpose to be someone elses and they would pick it back up.

micah then goes to tell me that he never said he was going to replace the power head with a new, calling me a lier. i finally got to talk to Glen, we talked and he agreed i just cant trust that motor anymore and he would get a new one shipped out the next friday. so on that monday i sent glen a email just trying to get this in writing, and described what all we discussed and even thru a few extra day in there just for unseen circumstances. he goes to reply with "since i didnt hear from you were adding another day", so not only is he already making excuses why i wont get it on time but he blaming me. i did nothing. we already agreed what was going to happen and when i just tried to get it in writing he blames me. the last text he sent me was that he wouold keep in touch with me.

that set me off, i told glen and micah to forget it, ill see them in court. found out that i will have to take my dealer to court since he is the one i dealt with and he has my money. but im ready to do it. he can then take glen to court him self. told me dealer im coming to get my stuff off the boat last friday.come last thursday he called and said micah was building a motor for me himself, the entire thing and was shipping it out the day after which was last friday. i told my dealer all that did was buy him one more week before i come get my stuff of the boat and we go to court.

its now tuesday and i hava heard nothing for anybody.

if there is anybody looking for a boat and motor DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT buy here. i undersatnd things happen to motors and even boats but a company HAS to stand behind their product, and i think they would if they tought it was worth standing behind. (or maybe not)

the motor i get if i ever get it will hopfully be great, but with micah's reputation and willingness to satisfy their customers it may blow up on me. or if glen wants to give me my money back and the money i was out for having to rent a boat AND make payments on a boat that i dont have, all at the same time, i would take it in a new york minute.

but it will cost a little more to keep my story quite.

Have you ever seen a brand new Excel boat sitting at a dealer... Go look at one. Then poke your head up under the gunnels... 0 attention to detail and complete lack of workmanship. Blind monkeys could weld / assemble better.

That is one of the reasons they love to spray those excel with the bed liner, it hides a lot of mistakes.
