im wondering why you would put a weld along the weakest part of the casting instead of carrying the "stiffening plate" over the weak joint to spread the load... i could look at that and tell its a bad idea... im also wondering if someone experienced in welding on cast material welded that or if it was a "i weld sheet aluminum, i could weld cast aluminum.." kinda guy. it looks to me like there is a lack of penetration

It's a bad design all the way around! I'm sure no welding test was taken either, before they said here u go need x amount a day! But then get they don't really produce that many yet

I got caught up in the coolaid way back when. I actually put a deposit down on a sport V and sat and waited, and waited and waited and never could get a straight answer. When I saw that teal season was around the corner, I demanded my deposit back, which they did give it back with no bickering. But here lies my issue. Why in the hell are they sending out a repair kit. Like it or not, MB is a big company when it comes to mudmotors, as well as GD, GT, PD. Handles snapping, transom brackets snapping. I really haven't seen this thing put through hell and back like the others. Hell I had an 03 hyperdrive that I put through hell and the only reason i got rid of it was it didn't have neutral, no clutch. I have nothing personal against MB other than false hope they gave me while waiting. They can't have that many out there, maybe a couple hundred. They need to do a recall before someone get seriously hurt and a lawsuit brings the company to ground.

Wow. Just wow looks like a major lawsuit coming to mudbuddy pretty soon, they better recall and fix the issues before someone gets killed, this could have easily happened in the middle of the river ejected the driver and passengers and ran them over, or slug them into booskios, into trees or rocks...

I wish I could see the list of people who have requested their deposits back, I imagine it is getting longer by the incident???

No wonder there aren't any reviews, nobody has had a motor stay in 1 piece long enough

The problem is that Mud Buddy goes unchecked. It is going to take someone getting critically injured or death before anything is done about it. The even sadder part is that it won't be Mud Buddy holding themselves accountable. They never have and never will.

They will just keep applying band-aids to mask the root cause.

Love my ol mud buddy surface drive. Never had a bit of trouble out of it. But... I'm leanin toward a gtr on my next one. Especially after seeing all these breaks one the new ones!

But the gears and clutch are rated for 500+ horsepower!

In reality any engineer can remedy that connection quickly. The fix is so simple. It sucks for the Beta testers. I was almost one of them.

I hope they do fix it so everyone can enjoy this years duck season.

Probably won't satisfy the naysayers but it does indicate that changes have been made and continue to be made.

The kits started going out today. We began asking the dealers to send us the customer names and addresses so that the kit can go directly to them.

Not all models need the kit, but we are sending them to everyone. The kit also includes the throttle hold down clamp for performance models with Mikuni carbs. The clamp will reduce the profile of the cable for those that run brush.

We were quick to develop the reinforcement kit the past two weeks and changed the castings to include a larger handle boss in the future. These are new motors and we can expect to have some issues as the motors are run in different parts of the country and circumstances. Any motors that break, castings or other components will be warranty repaired promptly. We are customer oriented and have posted a new warranty schedule that includes a 10 year casting warranty that ensures customers we stand behind our products.

Yes, we began advising dealers and customers today to not run the motors until the handle reinforcement kit is installed.

I don't really have a dog in this fight but to me it seems like the customers are getting a "bandaid for a broken leg" which is a little unsettling for the amount of money people shell out for these motors. I almost went with a sport v bc i liked the concept but after seeing them in person at the sportsman show, I just wasn't that impressed and figured I would wait and let the bugs get worked out. I am definitely glad I didn't go ahead with the sport v. I believe in time they will be good motors. I just think they got released way too quickly and I pray that no one gets seriously injured or killed before all these issues get straightened out.
