First off i have to thank Phowler (PW and Susan) and cuttdown for all the help and for making this deal right! Once I made the decision for them to build another boat and we talked about everyting I wanted different they got the boat done in little over 2 weeks time! MitchV was comin down to Ft. Hood to see his son and volunteered to bring the new boat down to me. I met Mitch on Thursday (March 19) and made the swap. Thanks alot Mitch for volunteering and helping me out and God Bless your son for his services! Motor: 36 Pro Drive with EVT Stage 1 Kit Boat: Custom built 1848 Phowler Extreme - No Floatation 6 - 2x2 Longitudinal Runners - All Welded to Transom 4 - 2x2 Cross Braces Tall Transom 20" Sides Extended Deck Pointed Bow SPUD Pole Kit 2 Rear Half Boxes Movable Gun Box Pipe in Pointed bow for Front SPUD pole and also for other accessories such as winch, lights, etc. Flat Black Base coat with RealFoot Camo Paint on outside and inside on sides but gonna put hydroturf down on floor and deck so told them no point in paintin that Speeds: First Run out All deep water - battery in rear and full tank of gas in front running a 12x13 Tulip prop that has some wear from sand Me (160) and the fiance (110) in the back hit 29 an bow started bouncin Moved her to middle of the gun box and hit 31 for a second but bow still wanted to bounce - Then buddy of mine (200+) got in and had him sit on the gun box and ran 28 most of the time into the wind...as the gas ran down the bow wanted to start to bouncin again It felt like I was goin alot faster then what the GPS showed and with some tweaking of the trim tabs and different prop I'm sure it'll run great! Either way I'm extremely happy with the way the boat turned out and dont plan on gettin rid of it! |

Like I told you yesterday, damn good looking rig and it appears to be built for the long haul. Im sure once you play with them trim tabs you'll be running 30 all day with a light load. |

Hey Willett, glad you like the replacement boat, I hope we exceeded your expectation. Sounds like she is running good, adjust the trim tabs down a bit. You might also be dealing with some proposing from the clever prop, we have seen this on a number of modds set-ups, to much lift from the prop seems to cause this issue right at the 30mph mark. Modified stock PD props seem to eliminate this issue. Play with it and see what works. I got a chance to look at your old boat first hand this morning and I believe my first assessment was correct, the memory in the hull is what is causing the crowning, it surely did not look anything like that when it left here. I don't see anything that would lead me to believe the few impact marks on the bottom would have caused this issue, the crown is uniform down the center of the boat, if you look close you can actually see the natural curve to the crown, this is from a hull that was over bent from our sheet supplier and then was pushed back out and bottom pushed back down by TMT. It was only a mater of time before the hull memory started pushing the bottom back up. We are sorry for the inconvience this caused you and hope we have made things right by you with your replacement boat. Now go have some fun with your new rig. Paul Willging |

I absolutely love the new boat...it came out better than I imagined I was running a modified stock prop (pitched to 13) when it was bouncing so gonna do some adjustments and run couple different props but either way I'm happy with everything on it! Thanks for the help |

Willeyyyy glad your new boat is the shizzle. I am unclear as to how prop lift will cause a boat to porpoise. It is doing the same thing as a trim tab, lifting the back of the boat so as to keep the front down. trim tab or wedges is the only option I can see. not a big deal. |

I am not sure why this is, just know I have heard about it more then a few times with guys playing with different props on a variety of hull (GT, PD, Go-Devil, Excels, etc). The clever prop is an aggressive lifting prop from what I have been told. I do know when the 36 came out PD had issues with the clevers working the way they wanted them to, one reason they went to the mod tulip. Again, I am not a prop FE, I just know what I have seen and been told and what I have seen on a few rigs we tested props on. I could be all wrong on that one, there are alot of guys out there with alot more prop wrenching time under their belts then me. In Willetts case I would say if he is running a Mod Tulip already, I would adjust trim tabs first, then look at a 13.5 or even a 14 pitch. PW |

Nice to see it all together. I do have to say that the way this hull is put together it should hold up very well, the bracing is almost overkill when compared to other hulls. And thanks for making the swap go smoothly. |

I got to see this boat yesterday, and I really liked the way they carried the 2x2 runners all the way up the rake. |

Post subject: | Re: 1848 Custom Phowler Extreme w/Stage 1 36 PD |
Thank you all for the comments on the boat. We always carry the runners up the rake, that is where they take most of the abuse. We built Willetts boat custom to his specs. Frankly the 2X2 runners with the heavy cross bracing is overkill. We have never had issues the 1X2 runners not holding up under abuse, just look at our demo videos and the hundreds of our, and other boats out there using 1X2 stringers. Willett's was an unusual case with the way the hull was bent and then built, no excuses here, it was not done the way we would have accepted, so we replaced it. But after his inconvience we felt we should get his replacement to him as quickly at possible and build it the way he wanted it done to ensure there was no chance of issues with the hull long term. So let just call it the Phowler Series EXXXTREME - "Willett Special". Paul Willging |

Nice boat. Like it that the runners tie into the transom, that is built for stout. |

Yea thats one extra thing I personally wanted...gatortrax is the only builder who runs their runners all the way to the transom and weld them to the transom for extra support and ever since I noticed that I wanted that done to my boat |
