Thinking about stepping into the world of mud motors. have a 1760 roughneck hull and an opportunity to pick up a lightly used, 3yr old 35 surface for it or... was thinking about dropping double money on a new BD4500. Live in Michigan and looking to just get around in very skinny water (<10") or clean(er) cattail marshes. I don't envision ever being in "mud" situations like they show in all the demos. thoughts? |

should have added that most trips are less than 10miles round trip, so though "fast" is always a plus, it's not important to hit high 20's. Especially when I can save $3k "IF" a 35 will suffice. hunting payload: scissor blind, 2 guys, dog, 6-8 dozen dekes |

Pick up his used motor, & put carb ($700), heads ($300-600), & exhaust ($400-500) on it. Do the exhaust 1st, because it won't matter how strong you are if you can't breathe. |

I agree with Camo.....save the money and go with the 35 used if in good shape! It will do all you need and get you in the twenties while saving the money on extra! If you want to mod it up do what Camo mentioned. |

Pretty good advice by camo and quaak right there. Use the money saved and just fix it when you can....just get out there and find some mud! |

If your not going to be using it much in the mud or even heavy vegitation then an outboard would be just fine. Slap a 60hp on the back and just giver. B4 my surface drive my outboards where mud motors or so I thought. You would be surpirsed where they will go. |
