my homebuilt fiberglass over wood. 1548 with mud buddy 35
i took her out for the maiden voyage yesterday and just knockin around managed to get 24 mph on gps at 3800 rpm. that was just me and 3 gallons of fuel. i have some tweaking to do and still find the sweet spot on the trim. im pretty happy with how it turned out.....even if it is a wood boat.

thanks. it was a long build and i think it turned out ok ....for a knock off built through picture guesstimation...and a set of duckhunter plans.

I built a duck hunter two years ago, ran like a stripped azz monkey with a 25 merc. A real learning experience with wood and glass.

Great job! That took a long time to build, I can see. Its all ply on frame and you coated with fiberglass cloth and epoxy, right?

It is glass over okoume ply on the top half and glass over Kevlar over okoume ply on the bottom half. Yeah, it is epoxy not poly. It took me close to 9 months to complete, not bad for a an hour here and an hour there. It is a far cry from a nice custom aluminum rig but it will do for now. Hell, I figure i wont be jumping any levees here in Virginia. But lurking around here has me drooling to get a spool gun for my millermatic 210.........

please dont beat the hell out of that boat. it look great! how much you figure the hull weighs? ide love to see it in alumnium. you do know if you can build it from plywood you can do it in alumnum. did you make templates when you had the chance?

I am super impressed with this rig. Having built a few out of aluminum, I can honestly say I wouldn't have sheets chance of building that rig! Nice job and get the best spool gun miller offers, not the cheapest!! It will pay off in the long run!

Re: my homebuilt fiberglass over wood. 1548 with mud buddy 3
i figure the hull is in the 450-500 pound range. it runs pretty good and i have already bounced it off of a couple logs in the shallows. the kevlar/glass and graphite epoxy is taking it well.
toller boatworks makes a boat called the "no fly zone". this is a crude knockoff at best. there were a couple like this being built on the gator boats forum. i went by their builds and pictures online to come up with my version.
i hear that toller is going to be building them in aluminum.
I love this little boat but im seriously thinking about building me a nice 1860 to get into some of the deeper water.
