All the marine motors i have been around are harder/ take longer to start and hesitate pretty bad off idle. My regular olde lawn mower motor cranks after a couple turns of the starter, idles good, and just seems to run better. Only cool thing i like about the marine motor is the chargine system output |

Briggs is currently considering "scrapping" several of the cdi engine's components. |

My cdi motor does not start as easy as my old motor. But I do like the charging system. |

So if you buy a new setup from GT, does it only come with the CDI's or do they offer both? Seen where MB offers both, just wondering if anyone knows... |

When did they put the marine motor into service. Does Prodrive have that with the same issues? |

So basically get rid of the charging system and keep the rest since that is what makes it a Piss pore machine!! |

They're making the engine with a 20 amp charging system now also...I'm not sure if the flywheel magnets are different though. |

I gotta say I don't think the cdi runs any better than a regular. I leave it at half choke to warm cause it may cut off, and a good deal of times it will kill when I engage the clutch in anything but open water. |

im thinkin fuel injection is not far off. that could be a good thing. i bro just bought a kubota rtv with fi and its great for start up and idle. 100 or -10 degrees and it starts up and idles. we have had mules for ever and they dont do either hot or cold. |

To Boat Dr. Are you saying that even the non-CDI motors now have the fuel pump mounted on the bracket up in front of the oil fill cap? A friend of mine just picked up his new 45 mag and I thought it was a CDI engine b/c of where the fuel pump was mounted, but this may not be the case. |

So you guys are saying that this statement isn't correct on the better throttle responst! New for 2010 - Pro-Drive is the only shallow water outboard to utilize the new 36 HP Vanguard Marine Powerhead. This new Powerhead, developed exclusively for Pro-Drive offers a new CDI ignition system, dual amp 20/50 charging system, high pressure fuel pump and stainless exhaust. This new engine has better idling, the best charging system on the market and better throttle up over other available powerheads. |

When my CDI was stock I thought it ran better than my non CDI powerhead...Maybe I got a lemon. lol But with heads, carb, exhaust, and cam.....it really fu<kin runs. |
