Yea I know sand will destroy a prop. I got back in a cove this weekend opening morning of duck season that straight screwed me. The black mud was about a foot deep with about 3 inches to a foot of water. Well little did I know till it was too late that this wasnt straight mud, looked like it to the naked eye. It was more like 75% mud and 25% sand. The trailing edge of the cup is gone! So gone it shaved the hair off my arm when you run it across it. Be sure you know your mud |

Yeah, it'll do it. ![]() You always burn through the first one faster than the rest, unless you are made of money... |

Outta the hole torque and top end went down the drain. Was running 29 with 3 people. 31.8 with just me and now I might be bumping just 27 with just me |

You can have it recupped. Just make sure they don't add too much or go around too far on it. I know everyone says not to, but I have 2 that have been recupped that work nearly as good as a new prop. $50 vs $230, your call. |

Appreciate it Camo, I was wondering if I could do that and how it would perform. I think I know a guy that can do it |

Black Death 5500. I don't slam the throttle when in one those situations. It was sand and at an idle or bout 1500 rpm's. Looked like rotten black mud, the sand was invisible |

Just checking. I would get w/ some of these guys and look at a recup but get someone that knows these units. Its not an outboard prop so use someone w/ experience and be prepared to do it again. It goes w/ the territory. Good idea to have a spare anyway. I have a worn out prop I put on if going to Venice, LA then change back when I get back. |

If things couldn't get any worse, my scag broke clean off......not in the shallows. In deep water. Fml. I'd fire the welder who welded that. There was absolutely no penetration on the port side. They had like an 1/8 inch fillet on 1/4 inch. Plus to cold at that!!! I'm pissed |

If memory serves me correct, you just got the motor not too long ago. The frame has a 1 yr warranty on it. Sounds like it's time to make a phone call. |

I would be freakin pissed too. Same GD thing happened to me on my Kubota lawn mower. The weld was not hot enough for the thick tubing on the deck wheels. their answer was to just weld it back on. My answer was phugg you give me a new deck. I had to fight all the way to the owner of the company. I got him when I asked if all his $11,000 dollar lawn mowers had wheels falling off. He got me a new deck. My fear was they would not be able to repaint the inside where the weld would burn off the paint and I would have a rust issue forever. I got a new deck. Phuggers!!! Hope you get your skeg back on. |
