Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
I was just woundering how the mud motors and boats, mostly the motors, have been performaning on some of the Texas lakes. Specifically, the resorvoirs.
Do you find them easy to run, and have you had issues with finding sumerged rocks (sumerged in mud)?
Most of the lakes around me are man made, and I know with the low water conditions there are alot of rocks just beneath the surface. I've wounder if this put the mud motor at a disadvantage, to where you'd be better off with a traditional motor. The reason being, you'd not risk going into places the water is to shallow.
Or is it really not as much of a probablem that I perceive it to be?

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Welcome to MMT...
Which lakes ???
If rocks are your only concern - go jet - but if you are talking loose muddy bottoms with floating and submerged veggies or lots of cypress knees and logs - its pretty hard to beat a Go Devil longtail or surface drive on a Go Devil hull....

First off, don't listen to anything Gigafag says. He's a retarded has been that still thinks go-devil is the best ever even though they refuse to keep up with current technology.
Second, don't tell us where you are going. We don't need to know your lake names and actually prefer that you not post them. A simple, N TX or S TX will suffice.
Welcome to MMT, hope you have a good pair of waders cause the shit is probably about to get deep...

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Thanks for the input.
No worries, wasn't planning on naming lakes. If I still lived in Louisiana, there'd be no question. But where I am hunting, I'm on the fence post on weather a mud motor would be worth the expense.

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Long as you don't buy a GDSD, you'll probably be happy anywhere you run.
Hey giga, still never been towed in or kept from hunting because of an outdrive failure. Keep spewing your bullshit trying to compensate for the fact that the brand you love oh so much just cannot keep up with the rest of the field in technology or sales...

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Concerning rocks.....think of it like this.....
Would you rather run an outboard made to run through open water or a motor that is meant to take abuse. They also make a rock gaurd for some of the mudmotors. Concerning go devil. I would run it in rocks cuz its an all steel frame. The others are cast aluminum. Still tough though.

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Building boats for other companies because they don't sell any more with their own name on em, huh? BTW, I don't own a PD hull... I was not trying to sell anyone a boat or motor with my posts either. Just stating that you are a moron that drives an outdated piece of shit, and tries to push them on newbies that don't know any better.
Have you ever looked at how a PD is built? Does it even remotely make sense for them to machine those in house? No.... On the other hand, I could build a GDSD in my backyard with a sheet of steel, and a few parts from a local parts store. If that's all I needed or wanted in a motor, that's what I would probably do. Def would not pay anywhere near what a GD costs new to have a piece of shit that doesn't handle any better than a longtail.
As usual, you spin off topic. Your way to combat GD's total lack of features is to criticize who builds the other manufacture's parts, because there is no defense for the fact that the GD is a piece of shit. If GD is building all this stuff for everyone else, why is it they can't keep up with the competition?

Piss me off, no. But I'm at work for 23 hours today so I have plenty time to call him on his bullshit sales pitch that he tries to make every time he posts... Blah, blah, blah, you should buy a gd, blah, blah, blah, the other one's break. They can all be broken if you try hard enough... If you didn't know any better, you'd swear he gets paid for all the dicksuckin he does.

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
First off - with 25,000 motors sold - Go Devil is still an industry leader with dealerships all across the USA..... I don't care what anyone buys.....
I just know that around here GD is the dominant brand in ability to get into the backwaters and in pure numbers we see at the ramp.... PD runs a pretty close second and there are a dozen or so MBs and I can count on 1 hand the GTRs I've seen at our ramps fishing and hunting every weekend....
I like the GDs because they have a matching hull and motor combo that is reliable and works without a bunch of mods to get it to perform.... It is soooo funny that guys think they are buying new technology - but then start their own R&D on modifications just to get it to perform between wrench turning sessions and thousands of dollars of aftermarket parts that MIGHT work and hold together for 20 hours - if your lucky.....

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
Jeezus Fukkin Christ Giga, can't you keep your dicklips off a thread that has nothing to do with GD vs. the World?
TxHopedale,
You will realize, probably by now, that these boys don't want any more mudmotors invading their areas, and would rather you bought an outboard and stayed away from their spots. Truth is, in any shallow water, a mudmotor will handle the abuse better, even if it is a rocky bottom. You can get a rockguard, and it will handle as good as anything possibly could considering it's hitting a rock at 30 mph.

Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
There's shitty surface drives, then there's good ones. But any of them would be a better alternative than an outboard, if your chief concern is getting back to the spot. I've been running NE Texas reservoirs for years, they hold up great. You'll destroy a boat a long time before you'll tear up the motor.

Txhope- if your anywhere by east tx your welcome to come see how a gtr runs. Unlike giga who's lips don't leave coco's nuts, I don't favor any brands... There all a peice of shit in the end. You really should just test run some around your area and make the decision for yourself.

Dang if this didn't take off.
Here are some pics of one of the lake I have hunted. Its extreamly low with the drought we're having, but it will give you a good idea of what the bottom of a Texas resivoir looks like:
The desert looking part is where the lake used to be.

The road in this pic, is supposed to be under water, when the lake has water
Notice the proper chewing rocks in this photo. (Not as big as some I've seen, but its why I asked the question)

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
DeathMetalDukk,
first things first, that Avatar is smoking hot. Luv to see a bigger photo.
Agree, some folks aren’t going to shoot straight. The whole reason to get one of these motor is to get to the, “X” where other can’t go, so thanks for the input.
Postalpaul,
I’ve gotten to ride in a Rockwell with a GTR 35. Defiantly sold on the motor, and know it can flat out run in the marsh. Which is why I started the thread, about how they perform in our reservoir. I’ve got a fish-n-ski, which I took to Lake Travis (can’t duck hunt it), and last time the lake was low like this, it cost me a new prop.
Migrator,
thanks for the offer. I’ll shoot you a PM and see if we can make a trip. I would like to see how the motor runs.
Crews,
was looking for your report. Thanks.
dog walker,
like I said to postalpaul. I’m sold on the motor, but it will be sometime before I can get a rig. Need to firm up the job situation.
On a side note, your Uncle told me you’ve been slaying them. Shoot me some pics, from the lake that close to Mr L Dean’s boat launch.

Re: Boat and Motor Performance On Texas Lakes
So what part of TX are you in? And I was talking about the sand in the pics, not the rocks... I'm running lakes that look like that and hitting all kinds of stuff right now. The rocks and stumps aren't a big problem, sand is though if that's what that is.
