7 hp Copperhead 13' River Hawk Duck Boat
Well after picking up my copperhead from a member on here a few weeks ago, I finally got a chance to run it yesterday. My trailer is still broken, but I had a buddy help me transport everything in the truck. For the lake I hunt--10hp restriction-- this is an awesome one man set up. I could not gps speeds, because I ran over my phone at the ramp, but I would guess it was running 15 mph, and didn't lose any speed in 6 in. of water. That is an honest 15 too. I think it was probably closer to 17, but without an actual gps, I hate to say that. It is important to balance the weight right though. It is basically a gheenoe, if you know what that is, but it has a false floor and no center bench. I sat on a 5 gal bucket almost in the middle of the boat and the boat easily planed off and got a good rooster tail. It is also a beast in the mud for such small horsepower. I have gator glide on the bottom of my boat and slide right over all kinds of vegetation and mud. I ran it as shallow as 2 inches of water with mud underneath. The one time I got stuck, I didn't stand a chance--sitting on mud completely out of water. The 7 hp was not digging out of that, couldn't even rock or budge the boat. I tied a rope to it, and my buddy with the 12 hp copperhead pulled me right out. The gator glide just slid right on top of the mud effortlessly. However, the boat only weighs 120 lbs, so that probably helped too. Like I said for one person it is great. I ran it with my buddy in the boat just to see if it could handle it, and it surprisingly did well. It can definitely hunt 2, but if I was doing that constantly plus gear I would probably consider the 10 or 12. I got to explore another 1/2 of the lake I've never seen before because I had an outboard. I will try to get back down there again before school and take a gps and some video.

The riverhawk flat backs are way more stable than most. Nice looking rig.
